Prince Harry Settles Lawsuit Against Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers
Prince Harry has settled his lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's NGN, with the publisher apologizing and agreeing to pay damages. The settlement follows allegations of phone hacking, surveillance, and misuse of private information
Prince Harry has decided to settle his lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers (NGN). This lawsuit involved accusations of surveillance and misuse of personal information by NGN journalists. The settlement came just as the trial was about to begin.

NGN Apologizes and Agrees to Compensation

NGN has issued a full apology to Prince Harry. The publisher also agreed to pay substantial damages. According to Harry's lawyer, NGN acknowledged that he was a victim of unlawful actions. These included phone hacking by The Sun and the now-closed News of the World. NGN’s apology stated: “NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun.”

Apology for Distress Caused to Princess Diana

Furthermore, NGN apologized for the distress caused to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. They specifically mentioned the harm caused to Diana during Harry’s childhood. The apology also acknowledged the emotional toll their actions had on her.

Legal Struggles and the Phone-Hacking Scandal

Harry’s lawsuit is part of ongoing legal action against British tabloids. This follows the infamous phone-hacking scandal that led to the closure of News of the World in 2011. Harry has long fought against the media’s intrusion into his private life.

Blaming the Media for Princess Diana’s Death

Harry has often blamed the media for his mother's death. Princess Diana died in 1997 in a car crash while being chased by paparazzi in Paris. Additionally, Harry has accused the press of constant harassment of his wife, Meghan Markle. This pressure led them to leave royal duties and move to the US in 2020.
