Mahakumbh 2025: Over 16 Lakh Devotees Take Holy Dip During Third ‘Amrit Snan’ at Triveni Sangam
The Mahakumbh celebrated its third grand 'Amrit Snan' on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami, attracting hundreds of thousands of devotees from around the world. These devotees gathered to take a sacred dip in the hopes of achieving spiritual liberation. At dawn, sadhus, including the ash-smeared Naga sadhus from various akharas, began their ceremonial procession towards the Triveni Sangam.

Naga Sadhus Lead the Ritual

The ritual began with the Naga Sadhus taking the first holy dip. According to the Mahakumbh administration, "Amrit Snan started on the Ghats by Naga Sadhus. With faith and devotion, the banks of Triveni are witnessing the ancient Indian culture and traditions."

Massive Participation at the Kumbh

A total of 16.58 lakh devotees had already participated in the holy dip by 4 AM. Since the Mahakumbh began on January 13, the total number of devotees who have bathed in the Sangam reached 34.97 crore. According to Information Director Shishir, over 10 lakh Kalpwasis, who are observing month-long austerities, have also joined in, adding to the spiritual energy of the Mela.

Devotees Celebrate Basant Panchami

On Monday morning, a large number of devotees gathered to bathe in the Ganga and offer prayers to Maa Saraswati. At the same time, Prayagraj Junction witnessed a significant influx of pilgrims as the city readied itself for the special ‘Amrit Snan’ on Basant Panchami.

The Importance of Basant Panchami

Basant Panchami marks the arrival of spring, ushering in new beginnings. Additionally, it marks the start of Holi preparations, which will culminate in 40 days. During this festival, Hindus honor Maa Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts.

Safety and Security Measures

In preparation for the event, Vivek Chaturvedi, Additional Mela Adhikari, mentioned, “Today is the ‘Amrit Snan’ on the occasion of Basant Panchami. The procession of Mahanirvani Akhara and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara is heading towards the Sangam ghat. Proper arrangements have been made for the safety of devotees.”

Crowd Control and Monitoring

To manage the large crowds, the Mahakumbh Command and Control Centre is monitoring 25 sectors, 30 pontoon bridges, and sensitive barricades. Additionally, 3,000 CCTV cameras have been set up to ensure the safety and smooth flow of pilgrims.

A Grand Event

The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. It has already attracted millions of devotees and is expected to break records for both attendance and participation, making it a grand spiritual celebration.
