Trump’s Gaza Plan Sparks Diplomatic Storm in the Middle East
Egypt and other Arab nations strongly oppose Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, warning it could destabilize the region and jeopardize peace agreements.
Israel has begun preparing for the potential departure of Palestinians from Gaza. However, President Donald Trump’s proposal has been widely rejected internationally. In response, Egypt is leading a diplomatic effort to oppose the plan. They warn that the proposal could threaten its peace treaty with Israel.

Egypt’s Diplomatic Efforts

First, Egypt has clearly opposed Trump’s proposal. The country argues that relocating Palestinians from Gaza would violate international law. Additionally, it says this action would destabilize the region. Consequently, Egypt’s peace deal with Israel could be at risk. Egypt has communicated this message to the U.S. administration and Israel, making their stance known.

Trump’s Plan for Gaza

Meanwhile, Trump’s plan includes resettling Palestinians in safer and more beautiful communities, with modern homes. He claimed that Israel would eventually hand Gaza over to the U.S. for rebuilding. Furthermore, Trump emphasized that no U.S. military involvement would be necessary. However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio later stated that the relocations would be temporary. He clarified that Palestinians would temporarily live elsewhere while Gaza is being rebuilt.

Palestinian and Arab Rejection

Nevertheless, Palestinians have strongly rejected the proposal. They fear that Israel would never allow them to return to Gaza. Egypt, for its part, has warned that this plan would lead to regional instability. Additionally, Saudi Arabia, another key U.S. ally, also opposes the mass transfer of Palestinians. It insists that a Palestinian state must be created first, before any normalization of relations with Israel.

Human Rights Concerns

In addition, Human Rights Watch has condemned the plan, labeling it “ethnic cleansing.” The organization criticizes the forcible removal of civilians from their homeland. Although Trump and Israeli officials insist the relocation would be voluntary, Palestinians remain determined to stay in Gaza. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the military to prepare for the emigration of Palestinians. However, there are still no signs of such preparations on the ground.

Egypt’s Strong Stance

Moreover, Egypt has communicated its opposition clearly and firmly. The country has conveyed its concerns to the U.S. Pentagon, State Department, and members of Congress. Egypt views the proposal as a serious threat to its national security. Officials have also shared their strong opposition with Israel and Western European allies.

Hamas Rejects the Plan

In addition, Hamas, which controls Gaza, strongly condemns Trump’s proposal. It has made it clear that any U.S. takeover of Gaza would be considered an occupation, which could lead to armed resistance. However, Hamas has not explicitly connected its objections to the ongoing ceasefire.

U.S. Officials Adjust the Plan

In response to growing criticism, U.S. officials have attempted to scale back the proposal. They now state that the relocations would only be temporary. Despite this adjustment, Egypt maintains that the Palestinians do not need to be relocated for Gaza’s reconstruction to proceed.

Arab Nations Oppose the Proposal

Finally, key Arab nations have rejected Trump’s plan. Last week, diplomats from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE made it clear that they oppose the transfer of Palestinians from Gaza. They have all refused to normalize relations with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state.

Egypt’s Warning

In conclusion, Egypt’s state-run daily, Al-Ahram, issued a stark warning. It cautioned that the independence and territorial integrity of Arab nations are under serious threat. This ongoing diplomatic push highlights the widespread opposition to Trump’s proposal in the Arab world and beyond.
