Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their winning streak in the TATA Women’s Premier League 2025. They defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in Match 4 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. Smriti Mandhana played a pivotal role, scoring her first half-century of the season. Additionally, she set a new record for the fastest fifty in WPL history, reaching the milestone in just 27 balls.
RCB's Smooth Chase
RCB made light work of the 142-run target set by DC. From the outset, Mandhana (81 off 47) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (42 off 33) were in control. They formed a 107-run opening partnership, which helped RCB complete the chase with 22 balls to spare. However, the foundation of the victory was laid by brilliant bowling from Renuka Singh Thakur (3-23) and Georgia Wareham (3-25).
DC's Early Setback
Mandhana won the toss and opted to bowl first. RCB made one change, bringing Ekta Bisht in for Prema Rawat. Meanwhile, DC made two changes, bringing in Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen for Alice Capsey and Niki Prasad.
RCB got off to a perfect start. Shafali Verma was dismissed for a golden duck, caught off the very first ball she faced by Mandhana. Following this, Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning took the lead, adding 50 runs for the second wicket. However, the momentum shifted when Rodrigues was stumped by Richa Ghosh off Wareham. Shortly after, Lanning was dismissed, and RCB seized control, reducing DC to 69/3 by the 9th over. Bisht, in particular, was crucial in breaking DC’s progress, and by the 12th over, DC were at a precarious 87/5.
RCB’s Bowlers Dominate
Bisht and Thakur continued to apply pressure, taking down DC’s international trio of Annabel Sutherland, Kapp, and Jonassen. As a result, DC found themselves at 117/6 with just four overs left. Although DC attempted to push for a strong finish, Thakur and Wareham maintained tight control, limiting the scoring opportunities. Ultimately, DC were bowled out for 141 in 19.3 overs.
Mandhana and Wyatt-Hodge Set the Pace
RCB's response was strong from the start. Mandhana hit 32* off 18 balls in the powerplay, with RCB reaching 57/0. She then reached her half-century off just 27 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Wyatt-Hodge also played an aggressive knock, and RCB accelerated to 102/0 after 10 overs.
Despite a brief moment of relief when Rodrigues caught Wyatt-Hodge off Arundhati Reddy, RCB maintained their dominance. Mandhana, who struck 10 fours and 3 sixes, continued to lead the charge. She was eventually dismissed for 81, but RCB needed just 9 more runs to win. Richa Ghosh, who had finished the opening game with a six, did the same here, hitting a six to complete the chase in 16.2 overs.
