US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke on Wednesday. This was their first conversation since their tense White House meeting three weeks ago. That meeting had led to a public disagreement between them.
Zelenskyy Felt No Pressure
During a Zoom call with journalists, Zelenskyy described the discussion as “fruitful.” Moreover, he said it was their best conversation yet. He also confirmed that he felt “no pressure” from Trump. Furthermore, he called the discussion “positive and frank.”
Ceasefire and Military Support
Zelenskyy agreed to a partial ceasefire that Trump had negotiated with Vladimir Putin a day earlier. As a result, the White House later confirmed this agreement. Additionally, Trump promised to help Ukraine secure more air defense systems for Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said the US had signaled that Ukraine should stop attacking energy infrastructure. Similarly, discussions included protecting civilian sites.
Talks on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant
Trump and Zelenskyy also discussed the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Notably, Trump suggested that the US could take control of Ukraine’s nuclear plants. This was part of his effort to secure a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy clarified the discussion while in Finland. “We talked only about one power plant, which is under Russian occupation,” he said, referring to Zaporizhzhia.
