Iran Open to Indirect Talks with US, Says Top Adviser
Iran remains open to indirect talks with the US but insists negotiations depend on Washington changing its "maximum pressure" policy.

Kamal Kharrazi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said on Thursday that Iran is open to resolving disputes with the United States. Furthermore, he stated that Tehran is ready for indirect talks with Washington.

So far, Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump’s demand to agree to a deal or face military action. Instead, Iranian leaders have strongly criticized his approach.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Trump’s message misleading. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that talks cannot happen unless the US changes its “maximum pressure” policy.

Iran’s Position on Negotiations

According to Reuters, Kharrazi said, “The Islamic Republic has not closed all doors. It is ready for indirect negotiations with the United States in order to evaluate the other party, state its own conditions and make the appropriate decision.”

Moreover, Iran plans to respond to Trump’s letter soon. Last week, Araqchi emphasized that Tehran would carefully consider both Trump’s threats and possible opportunities before replying.

US-Iran Tensions and Nuclear Deal

Previously, during his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump pulled the US out of the 2015 nuclear deal. The agreement had placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

However, in 2018, Trump reinstated harsh sanctions. As a result, Iran broke the agreement’s limits and expanded its uranium enrichment program.

Western nations believe Iran is secretly working to develop nuclear weapons. They argue that Iran is enriching uranium beyond what is necessary for civilian energy.

On the other hand, Iran strongly denies these claims. It insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful energy purposes.
