Three Jammu and Kashmir policemen died in a gunfight with Pakistani terrorists on Thursday in Kathua district, as per reports. Meanwhile, security forces shot and killed three terrorists during the clash.
The battle started when security personnel searched Sufain forest, and suddenly, terrorists opened fire from their hiding spot. As a result, the heavy exchange of bullets led to casualties on both sides.
Security Forces Suffer Injuries
During the encounter, DSP Dheeraj Katoch, two policemen, and a 1 PARA (Special Forces) soldier sustained injuries. Consequently, authorities deployed reinforcements and sealed off the area.
Explosions and Ongoing Operation
Officials confirmed that the deceased included a head constable and two constables. However, their bodies remain at the site due to the ongoing operation. Terrorists used grenades and rockets, causing multiple blasts.
“The gunfire continued throughout the day,” an official told Times of India. Additionally, the injured security personnel received treatment at hospitals in Kathua and Jammu. Fortunately, doctors confirmed their stable condition.
Connection to Earlier Gunfight Near Border
Authorities believe these terrorists escaped after a brief shootout on Sunday near Sanyal village in Hiranagar, close to the Pakistan border. Notably, Sufain forest, where the latest clash happened, is about 35 km from Sanyal.
Massive Search Operation Underway
Subsequently, security forces tracked the terrorists to a remote mountain hut used by nomadic herders. However, the militants fled before capture, triggering a large-scale manhunt.
Currently, the search has entered its fourth day. The Army, NSG, BSF, CRPF, and J&K Police are using drones, UAVs, bulletproof vehicles, and sniffer dogs to locate the suspects.
Key Recoveries and Breakthrough
On Monday, security teams found four loaded M4 carbine magazines, two grenades, a bulletproof jacket, sleeping bags, tracksuits, and IED-making materials.
Later, a breakthrough came the next day when a woman in Dinga Amb village spotted two men in combat uniforms asking for water. Consequently, this tip prompted security forces to widen their search and intensify efforts to capture any remaining terrorists.
At present, the situation remains tense as forces continue their mission to secure the area.
