Indian Super League 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC Defeats NorthEast United 2-0 to Secure Semi-Final Spot
Jamshedpur FC defeated NorthEast United FC 2-0 to enter the ISL 2024-25 semi-finals, setting up a clash with Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Jamshedpur FC secured a 2-0 victory over NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, advancing to the semi-finals of the Indian Super League 2024-25. As a result, the Red Miners will now face League Shield Winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the last-four stage. Notably, this win marked their fifth away victory of the season, their best record in any ISL campaign.

Eze’s Stunning Goal Gives Jamshedpur the Lead

Jamshedpur took the lead in the 29th minute with a well-executed play. First, Ashutosh Mehta launched a long throw-in, sending the ball deep into the 18-yard box. Then, Stephen Eze controlled it swiftly and, with quick footwork, fired a powerful shot from a tight angle on the right. Impressively, he placed the ball into the top left corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

Missed Chances and Defensive Brilliance

Soon after, Mohammed Sanan attempted a long-range shot, hoping to double the lead. However, the ball swerved past the post, missing the target by inches. A few minutes later, Buanthanglun Samte tested goalkeeper Albino Gomes with a looping long ball from near the halfway line. Fortunately for Jamshedpur, Gomes remained composed and made a crucial save. Shortly after, Samte changed his approach and curled a precise pass to Macarton Nickson, who then laid it off for Jithin MS. Unfortunately, Jithin’s shot was far from the target, wasting a good opportunity.

Jamshedpur Push for a Second Goal

As the game entered the final minutes, Jamshedpur increased their attacking intensity. In the 83rd minute, Jordan Murray created a promising chance. He engaged in a one-on-one battle with Asheer Akhtar on the right flank before delivering a sharp cross to Javi Siverio. Nevertheless, Siverio’s shot went just over the bar, ending a swift counterattack on a disappointing note.

Late Drama and a Decisive Goal

Just when Jamshedpur seemed in control, they suffered a setback in the 88th minute. Mobashir Rahman received a red card for a reckless challenge, reducing his team to ten men. Despite this disadvantage, Jamshedpur remained determined to seal the win. In stoppage time, Javi Hernandez and Ritwik Das combined brilliantly inside NorthEast United’s defensive third. Eventually, Hernandez calmly slotted the ball into the center of the net, securing Jamshedpur’s place in the semi-finals.

Star Performer – Stephen Eze

Eze delivered an outstanding performance on both ends of the pitch. Defensively, he made six interceptions and 11 clearances. More importantly, he scored the crucial opening goal, setting the tone for Jamshedpur’s victory.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, Jamshedpur FC will take on Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the semi-final over two legs on April 3 and April 7. Meanwhile, NorthEast United FC’s campaign has officially come to an end.
