IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Eye Third Win as CSK Struggle for Form in High-Stakes CSK vs DC Showdown
Delhi Capitals aim to continue their winning streak as struggling CSK may turn to MS Dhoni for leadership in a high-stakes Chepauk clash.

Delhi Capitals (DC) will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 17th match of the IPL 2025 season at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Delhi Capitals have made a strong start in IPL 2025. So far, they have won both their opening games. They defeated Lucknow Super Giants first, then SunRisers Hyderabad. As a result, they are currently placed second on the points table. Axar Patel has led the team well.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are struggling. After losing two of their first three matches, they now sit in the eighth spot. To make things worse, Ruturaj Gaikwad injured his elbow during the game against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Because of this, he may miss the upcoming match against Delhi Capitals. If that happens, MS Dhoni will likely step in as captain. In fact, this would be his first time leading the side since the IPL 2023 final.

Delhi Capitals Build a Balanced Team

Delhi Capitals look sharp and balanced. They have blended experienced players with promising youngsters. For example, Faf du Plessis continues to perform at age 40. Mitchell Starc has made a fiery start. He has taken 8 wickets in 2 games with an average of 9.62.

In addition, young players like Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma have stepped up. In fact, both have already played match-winning roles.

Even if the Chepauk pitch starts turning, DC are well-prepared. They have three quality spinners in Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Nigam. Therefore, they stand a good chance to finally beat CSK in Chennai.

It’s worth noting that Delhi Capitals last won at Chepauk in 2010. Back then, their current coach Hemang Badani was playing for CSK. Since then, he coached Chepauk Super Gillies to multiple TNPL titles. Now, he returns to Chepauk with DC. This game could be a special moment for him.

CSK Look for Answers After Record Loss

On the other hand, CSK's problems grew after their heavy defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Not only was it their biggest loss at Chepauk in terms of runs, but also a major dent in confidence. After that, they narrowly lost to Rajasthan Royals.

At the same time, CSK are still figuring out their best playing XI. Rahul Tripathi is out of form. Vijay Shankar replaced Deepak Hooda in Guwahati, but he failed to make an impact. CSK tried Jamie Overton with the new ball, however, he gave away 30 runs in just two overs during the powerplay.

Following the RCB match, head coach Stephen Fleming had a word with the pitch curator. He looked frustrated with the Chepauk surface. In the press conference, he said, “There is no home advantage.” He also expressed disappointment that the pitches haven’t helped spinners in the past two years. Due to this, their strategy to pack the squad with slow bowlers has not worked.

Pitch and Weather Conditions

The pitch at Chepauk remains tricky. CSK expected spin-friendly conditions, but it hasn’t gone that way. As Fleming pointed out, “There is no home advantage.” The upcoming clash is the only day match in Chennai this season. Therefore, players will have to deal with hot and humid weather.
