Elon Musk Faces Backlash in Trump Administration Over Erratic Conduct
Elon Musk faces mounting pressure in the Trump administration as officials grow frustrated with his leadership style, behavior, and controversial decisions.

Elon Musk, a major figure in tech and business, once had strong ties with the U.S. federal government and held a top post in the Trump administration. As the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he was tasked with cutting red tape, reducing waste, and bringing innovation into public service.

However, by 2025, reports have revealed growing tension between Musk and key White House officials. According to Rolling Stone, several members of Trump’s cabinet have grown frustrated with Musk’s attitude. They describe him as "disruptive" and even "irritating." The concerns are not just about his behavior but also about his leadership style, unpredictable decisions, and alleged erratic conduct.

Musk’s Role in the Trump Administration

Trump appointed Musk to lead DOGE, expecting him to make the government more efficient. Musk quickly launched bold reforms. He cut jobs, merged departments, and introduced corporate-style management to federal agencies. These actions gave DOGE more power than ever before.

Backlash Over Musk’s Conduct

Despite holding a powerful role, Musk has upset many senior officials. As Rolling Stone reported, insiders often call him "irritating" in meetings. One official said that talking to Musk felt like “listening to rusty nails on a chalkboard” because of his sarcastic tone, bad jokes, and need to appear intellectually superior.

Some even questioned his mental state during meetings. They claimed he acted as if he were “high.” This led to speculation about drug use, although Musk’s legal team strongly denied it.

Drug Use Allegations Spark Debate

Reports from The Wall Street Journal suggested that Musk had used drugs like LSD, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms. Musk denied these claims and said he only uses prescribed ketamine for depression.

His lawyer responded by stating, “He undergoes regular and random drug testing through SpaceX and has never failed any test.” Still, the rumors caused unease inside the White House. Some staff joked about requiring drug tests for all federal employees, including Musk.

Mass Layoffs Cause Outrage

Musk’s reforms led to the firing of tens of thousands of federal workers. Lawmakers and White House staff criticized this move. One email in particular, asking employees, “What did you do last week?” caused backlash. Many saw it as too aggressive and out of place in government work culture.

Feud With Top Officials Intensifies

Things worsened when Musk clashed with senior trade advisor Peter Navarro. After Navarro called Tesla just a “car assembler,” Musk fired back on social media, calling him a “moron.” This public exchange exposed deeper divisions between Musk and the Trump team.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also criticized Musk behind closed doors. According to sources, he jokingly referred to him as “Crazy Uncle Elon.”

Musk’s Political Spending Raises Concerns

Musk also contributed heavily to Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign. Reports say he donated around $290 million. While this helped him gain influence, some insiders now fear his unpredictable behavior could harm the administration’s long-term goals.

Push to Remove Musk Gains Momentum

Due to the rising discontent, some lawmakers are considering legislation that could remove Musk from DOGE. Although no official steps have been taken yet, the pressure is mounting. His controversial actions and clashes with key officials might speed up efforts to strip him of power.
