Mumbai Indians (MI) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 9 wickets in the 38th match of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. There was a thunderstorm of sixes and boundaries from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav that blew away Chennai Super Kings. Both played superb knocks and remained unbeaten till the end.
Mixed Start for CSK
Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl. Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed opened for Chennai Super Kings. Deepak Chahar bowled the first over and conceded only 4 runs. Trent Boult followed with another tight over, giving away just 4 runs. After 2 overs, CSK stood at 8/0. Shaik Rasheed struck a boundary in the third over. CSK added 8 runs and reached 16/0 after 3 overs.
Rachin Falls, Mhatre Strikes Back
Ashwani Kumar struck on the first ball of the fourth over, dismissing Rachin Ravindra. Ayush Mhatre walked in at No. 3 and took charge. He smashed a boundary and two consecutive sixes in the same over. Despite the loss, CSK reached 34/1 after 4 overs.
Mhatre continued his aggression with another boundary in the fifth over. Chahar gave away 9 runs. Mitchell Santner bowled the sixth over and tightened the screws, conceding just 5 runs. After the powerplay, CSK reached 48/1. Rasheed had 17 off 17 balls, while Mhatre was on 24 from 10 balls.

Chahar returned in the seventh over. Mhatre hit two more boundaries but fell on the final ball. He scored 32 off 15. Ravindra Jadeja came in next. CSK moved to 59/2 after 7 overs. Santner bowled the eighth over and dismissed Shaik Rasheed on the last ball. Rasheed made 19 off 20 balls. CSK reached 63/3.
Shivam Dube entered at No. 5. Bumrah bowled the ninth over and gave away only 3 runs. Will Jacks followed with another economical over, conceding 4. At the halfway mark, CSK stood at 70/3. Jadeja was on 9 off 9, while Dube was on 2 off 7.
Dube and Jadeja Aim to Stabilize
Hardik Pandya bowled the 11th and gave away 3 runs. Boult returned for the 12th. Dube struck a boundary, and CSK managed 9 runs. Jadeja added another boundary in the 13th over bowled by Bumrah. CSK reached 100 in the 14th over when Dube hit a six. They added 11 runs in that over. Dube began the 15th over with a boundary and followed it up with a six. The pair reached a 50-run stand. CSK stood at 118/3.
Ashwani Kumar returned for the 16th over. Dube smacked a boundary and two sixes, then reached his half-century in 30 balls. Jadeja joined the fun with a six on the final ball. CSK added 24 runs in the over, reaching 142/3.
Dube Falls, Dhoni Arrives
Bumrah struck in the 17th over, removing Dube for 50 off 32. MS Dhoni came in next. Only 3 runs came from the over. CSK were 145/4. Santner gave away 5 runs in the 18th over, with CSK crossing 150. In the 19th, Jadeja hit a boundary, but Bumrah dismissed Dhoni for 4. Jamie Overton got a lucky boundary to open his account. CSK reached 160/5.
Jadeja Finishes Strong
Boult bowled the final over. Jadeja unleashed fireworks, completed his half-century in 34 balls, and took CSK to 176/5. He remained unbeaten on 53 off 35 balls. Overton was not out on 4 off 3 balls.

Chasing 177, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened for Mumbai Indians. Khaleel Ahmed gave away 10 runs in the first over. Rohit smashed a six in the second over. In the third over, he hit a six and two boundaries. MI reached 35/0.
Ashwin bowled the fourth over and gave only 3 runs. Overton returned in the fifth and Rickelton greeted him with a six. The pair completed a 50-run opening stand. Rohit ended the over with another six. MI moved to 56/0. Rickelton added a boundary in the sixth over. MI stood at 62/0 after the powerplay. Rickelton was on 32 (18), while Rohit had 24 (18).
Jadeja Breaks the Partnership
Jadeja bowled the seventh over and removed Rickelton for 24. SKY came in and got off the mark with a single. MI reached 65/1. Rohit smashed another six in the eighth over. MI added 11 runs and moved to 76/1.
SKY and Rohit Dominate
SKY attacked Jadeja with a six and a four in the ninth. Noor Ahmad followed with a tight over, conceding just 5 runs. After 10 overs, MI stood at 93/1. Rohit was at 46, SKY at 17.
SKY hit a six and a four in the 11th over as MI crossed 100. Rohit completed his fifty in the 12th over, taking 33 balls. MI were 112/1.
Ravindra dropped Rohit on the first ball of the 13th over. With that, the 50-run stand between SKY and Rohit was completed. SKY hammered three back-to-back boundaries. MI reached 127/1.
MI Race Towards Victory
Rohit hit a boundary and a six in the 14th over. SKY responded in the next with a four and a six. He reached his fifty in 26 balls. Rohit added another boundary. MI stood at 157/1 after 15 overs.
SKY and Rohit Seal the Win
Matheesha Pathirana came to bowl the 16th over. Rohit Sharma hit a six on the first ball after a wide delivery. That six brought up the 100-run stand between Rohit and SKY. He took a single on the next ball. SKY then hit back-to-back sixes to seal the victory for Mumbai Indians in style. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 76 off 45 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav stayed not out on 68 off 30 balls.
