After months of staying away from the silver screen, Aamir Khan is back in the spotlight. This time, it’s not just for his ongoing connection with Gauri Spratt but also for his highly anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this film ever since it was announced.
Aamir Speaks to Fans
Recently, Aamir Khan made a virtual appearance before his China-based fan club. During this interaction, he opened up about the film. The video was shared on the social media platform X, where fans got a glimpse of what’s coming. He shared, “Sitaare Zameen Par is almost ready. It is the sequel of Taare Zameen Par. Thematically, it is going ten steps ahead. It is about people who are differently abled. It is about love, friendship and life. Taare Zameen Par made you cry but this film will make you laugh. It’s a comedy but the theme is the same.”
A New Role with a Twist
In addition to sharing details about the film, Aamir revealed a major shift in his character. Unlike Nikumbh, his role in Taare Zameen Par, this time, he plays a much more complex and different character. He explained, “My character in Taare Zameen Par was Nikumbh, who is a very sensitive person. In this film, my character’s name is Gulshan, but his personality is exactly opposite to Nikumbh's. He is not sensitive at all. He is very rude, politically incorrect, and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems, and the story is how he changes with the film. How these people in the spectrum teach him what it is to be a good human being.”
Inspired by a True Story
The film draws inspiration from the 2018 Spanish film Champions, which tells the true story of a basketball team with athletes who have intellectual disabilities. In fact, Hollywood had previously adapted it, with Woody Harrelson playing the role of a hot-headed coach. However, Aamir’s adaptation promises a unique and emotionally rich take, with an Indian twist. RS Prasanna directs the film, while Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh join the cast.
