Bengaluru FC exited the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 after a tough penalty shootout defeat. Inter Kashi beat them 5-3 in the tiebreaker on Tuesday in Bhubaneswar.
Williams Scores, But Babović Responds
First, Ryan Williams gave Bengaluru the lead in the second half. He calmly finished after receiving a clever chipped pass from Alberto Noguera.
However, Inter Kashi did not back down. In the 88th minute, Matija Babović scored a late equaliser. As a result, the match ended 1-1 in regular time and headed into penalties.
Inter Kashi Start Strong
Earlier, Inter Kashi had looked sharper in the first half. Former Bengaluru player Edmund Lalrindika led their attack. He set up Prasanth Karuthadathkuni with a brilliant through ball. Unfortunately for Inter Kashi, Prasanth’s shot hit the post.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru struggled to break through the defense. Williams and Noguera found space, but they couldn’t create clear chances. Therefore, the first half ended goalless.
Gurpreet Stands Tall
Soon after the break, Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made two excellent saves. He first blocked a powerful strike from Prasanth. Then he denied Stojanovic’s free-kick with a sharp dive.
Eventually, Bengaluru’s pressure paid off. Noguera floated a lovely pass into the box. Williams controlled it well and scored past the keeper.
Late Goal Changes the Game
But Inter Kashi kept pushing. In the final minutes, Babović took advantage of a loose ball and scored. Consequently, the match went to a penalty shootout.
Shootout Drama
In the shootout, Inter Kashi showed great composure. They scored all five of their penalties. On the other hand, Bengaluru faltered. Noguera missed his attempt, which proved costly.
Bengaluru FC Bow Out
In the end, Bengaluru FC lost 3-5 on penalties. Despite taking the lead, they couldn’t hold on. Inter Kashi’s late goal and perfect penalties knocked the Blues out of the Kalinga Super Cup.
