IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Beat Punjab Kings with 3 Balls to Spare
Delhi Capitals clinched a thrilling last-over win against Punjab Kings, denting their chances of a top-two finish in IPL 2025.

Delhi Capitals (DC) edged out Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 wickets in a last-over thriller with 3 balls to spare. It was the 66th match of IPL 2025, held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Punjab Kings posted 206/8 on the board, thanks to a blazing half-century by Shreyas Iyer, a quickfire innings from Josh Inglis, and another explosive knock from Marcus Stoinis.

While chasing, Delhi Capitals lost a few wickets after a strong start, but Sameer Rizvi played a superb knock and sealed the win for his team. Although Delhi Capitals were already knocked out of the playoffs race, they made it difficult for Punjab Kings to finish in the top two spots of the group stage.

Early Blow to Punjab Kings

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened for Punjab Kings. Mukesh Kumar bowled the first over and gave away only five runs. Priyansh hit a boundary in that over.

Mustafizur Rahman bowled the second over and struck early. He dismissed Priyansh Arya for 6 runs off 9 balls. Josh Inglis came in next and opened his account with a double. After two overs, Punjab Kings were 10/1.

Inglis and Prabhsimran Build Momentum

Mukesh returned for the third over. Inglis smashed two boundaries. PBKS moved to 21/1. In the fourth over, Prabhsimran hit a boundary and Inglis smashed a six. They scored 14 runs off Mustafizur’s over.

Mohit Sharma bowled the fifth over. Prabhsimran collected two more boundaries. Vipraj Nigam came in for the sixth over. Inglis welcomed him with a six and a four. But Vipraj struck back and got Inglis stumped for 32 off 12. Shreyas Iyer walked in and hit a boundary first ball. After six overs, PBKS were 60/2.

Kuldeep and Vipraj Slow Down PBKS

Kuldeep Yadav started the seventh over with a no-ball. Prabhsimran greeted him with a six. PBKS scored 11 from the over. Vipraj struck again in the eighth over, removing Prabhsimran for 28 off 18. Nehal Wadhera came to the crease.

In the ninth over, Iyer hit a six off Kuldeep. Wadhera followed up with a boundary. The pair added 14 runs. Vipraj came back for the 10th over and kept things tight, giving only 6 runs. PBKS reached 97/3 at the halfway mark. Iyer was batting on 18 and Wadhera on 10.

Iyer Anchors the Innings

Mohit returned for the 11th over. Iyer smashed a four and brought up 100 for PBKS. In the 12th over, he hit a six off Kuldeep. PBKS added 11 more runs.

Mukesh dismissed Wadhera in the 13th over for 16 off 16. Shashank Singh came in and took a single to get going. Iyer ended the over with a boundary. PBKS were 124/4.

Vipraj bowled the 14th over. Iyer hit a boundary, and 10 runs came from it. Mohit bowled a tight 15th over and gave only 8 runs. A review saved Iyer and Kuldeep dropped him in the same over. PBKS reached 142/4.

Mustafizur returned for the 16th over. He removed Shashank for 11 off 10. Marcus Stoinis came in and scored a single. PBKS were 146/5 after 16 overs.

Iyer, Stoinis Launch Late Attack

Mukesh bowled the 17th over. Stoinis smashed two sixes and a four. Iyer also hit a boundary to reach his fifty in 33 balls. PBKS scored 25 runs in the over, taking the score to 171/5.

Kuldeep came back for the 18th over and dismissed Iyer for 53 off 34. He also got Omarzai on the last ball. Only 3 runs and 2 wickets came in the over. PBKS stood at 174/7.

Stoinis Powers PBKS Past 200

Marco Jansen joined Stoinis. Mohit bowled the 19th over but Stoinis took him apart, hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours. In the final over by Mustafizur, Jansen fell for a duck. Brar hit a six to bring up 200 for PBKS. They ended with 206/8 in 20 overs. Stoinis remained unbeaten on 44 off 16, Brar on 7 off 2.

DC Openers Give Solid Start

Chasing 207, Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul opened for Delhi Capitals. Arshdeep bowled the first over and gave only 7 runs. Omarzai bowled the second, and KL hit a boundary. Arshdeep came back and conceded two back-to-back boundaries to KL. After 3 overs, DC were at 22/0.

In the fourth over, Faf hit a six and KL followed with two boundaries. Brar bowled the fifth. Faf hit a four and KL launched a six to complete the 50-run partnership.

In the sixth over, KL hit a four but lost his wicket next ball to Jansen for 35 off 21. Karun Nair came in and hit a six to get going. After six overs, DC were 61/1.

Punjab Strikes Twice

Brar bowled the seventh over and got Faf on the fourth ball. He scored 23 off 15. Sediqullah Atal came in and got off the mark. DC were 66/2.

Jansen bowled the 8th over and gave away 11 runs, including a six by Sediqullah. Dubey bowled the ninth over and kept it tight with just 4 runs. Stoinis bowled the 10th over. Sediqullah hit a six and was dropped twice. DC moved to 93/2 at the halfway mark.

Nair and Rizvi Take Control

Praveen Dubey struck in the 11th over, removing Sediqullah for 22 off 16. Sameer Rizvi came in next. Karun Nair smashed back-to-back boundaries and then added two more. DC reached 110/3.

Jansen bowled the 12th and gave only 4 runs. Omarzai bowled the 13th. Rizvi hit a four and a six. DC moved to 128/3.

DC Keep Momentum Going

Jansen bowled the 14th over. Rizvi hit a six and Nair closed with another six. Brar bowled the 15th over. Nair hit a four but got bowled on the last delivery. He scored 44 off 27. DC were 155/4.

Stubbs came in next. Arshdeep bowled the 16th over and gave only 4 runs. Brar bowled the 17th over. Rizvi hit a six and Stubbs ended with a four. Omarzai bowled the 18th over. Rizvi smashed two more boundaries. DC reached 185/4.

Rizvi Completes Fifty, DC Seals Win

Arshdeep bowled the 19th over. Rizvi hit a six and completed his fifty in 22 balls. Stubbs finished the over with a boundary. DC were at 199/4.

With only 7 needed in the final over, Stoinis bowled a wide first ball. Rizvi then smashed a six on the third ball to seal the win. DC won the match by 6 wickets. Rizvi remained unbeaten on 58 off 25, and Stubbs stayed not out on 18 off 14.

Priyansh and Prabhsimran failed to score big in the match. Josh Inglis played a superb knock and maintained the momentum. Shreyas Iyer played well and scored a blazing half-century. The quickfire knock by Marcus Stoinis helped Punjab Kings cross the 200-run mark. But as the result suggests, they fell short by 20–30 runs.

When Delhi Capitals came to chase, they lost some wickets in middle overs. KL Rahul got out after a good start. Sameer Rizvi held one end, brought the match to the final over, and sealed the win in style. His partnerships with Karun Nair and Tristan Stubbs turned the match in DC's favor.
