Israeli forces boarded the Madleen, an aid ship heading to Gaza. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) confirmed this on Monday. They also said that all contact with the ship was lost soon after the boarding.
Greta Thunberg and Others On Board
Climate activist Greta Thunberg was among those on the vessel. “Game of Thrones” actor Liam Cunningham and French MEP Rima Hassan were also part of the group.
Earlier, the FFC posted a photo on Telegram. It showed the crew sitting inside the ship wearing lifejackets and raising their hands. No Israeli soldiers were visible in the image.
FFC Reports Attack in International Waters
The FFC claimed that the attack happened in international waters. They said, “Quadcopters are surrounding the ship, spraying it with a white paint-like substance.” Moreover, they noted that “communications are jammed, and disturbing sounds are being played over the radio.”
While #Madleen must be released immediately, every Mediterranean port should send boats with aid, solidarity, and humanity to Gaza. They shall sail together—united, they will be unstoppable.#BreakingTheSiege is a legal duty for states, and a moral imperative for all of us. pic.twitter.com/FeaD1Fq4Dk

Israel Vows to Stop the Flotilla
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz took responsibility. He said, “I have instructed the IDF to ensure that the ‘Madleen’ flotilla does not reach Gaza.”
Earlier, Israeli officials dismissed the aid effort. They referred to the Madleen as a “selfie yacht” filled with “celebrities.”
