Jos Buttler Admits Vaibhav Suryavanshi ‘Scared’ Him With Lara-Like Brilliance
At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the cricket world with fearless batting, drawing praise and comparisons to legends like Lara and Yuvraj.

Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making headlines in Indian cricket. He plays for India U-19 and Rajasthan Royals. Many fans already compare him to the great Sachin Tendulkar.

Rajasthan Royals Spot a Star

Rajasthan Royals paid ₹1.1 crore for Vaibhav in the IPL 2025 mega auction. That decision quickly paid off. At first, he sat on the bench. But when Sanju Samson got injured, RR sent Vaibhav to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Youngest IPL Debut and a Stunning Start

Vaibhav made his IPL debut on April 19, 2025, against Lucknow Super Giants. He was just 14 years and 23 days old. That made him the youngest debutant in IPL history. He scored 34 runs off 20 balls and smashed a six off his very first ball.

Breaks Records with a Blazing Century

In the next match, Vaibhav shocked everyone. He scored a brilliant century against Gujarat Titans. He made 101 off just 38 balls, reaching 100 in only 35 deliveries. Vaibhav hit boundaries off top bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan.

Jos Buttler Praises the Prodigy

England’s Jos Buttler, who kept wickets for GT during Vaibhav’s century, shared his thoughts. On a podcast with Stuart Broad, Buttler said, “It’s inspiring and deflating at the same time.” He praised Vaibhav's fearless style and confidence at such a young age.

Vaibhav’s Fearless Approach

Buttler described Vaibhav’s first IPL ball: “He gave himself room and smashed it over long-off.” He added, “This kid came out to make a statement.” Buttler was amazed by Vaibhav’s huge sixes and called his hundred “outrageous.”

Dominating Big Names in the Game

Later, Vaibhav impressed against Chennai Super Kings too. He hit big shots off seasoned bowlers like R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Buttler said, “He looked in complete control.” He even called Vaibhav the “best player I’ve ever seen.”

Comparisons to Cricket Legends

Buttler revealed that Vaibhav’s bat swing reminded him of two legends: Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. He said, “It’s a huge statement, but that’s the kind of player he looks like.”

Rising Star from Bihar

Vaibhav comes from Bihar, a state not known for producing many cricketers. Still, he played first-class cricket at age 12. He even smashed one of the fastest hundreds for India U-19 against Australia U-19, just before the auction.

Currently, Vaibhav is touring with the India U-19 team in England. He hopes to continue his stunning form and make a bigger mark on the international stage.
