From Rumours to Comeback: Genelia Breaks Silence and Returns Strong
Genelia D’Souza denied marriage rumours with John Abraham and opened up about being sidelined in Bollywood after marriage.

Genelia D’Souza has finally responded to one of the strangest rumours of her career. In 2012, a rumour claimed she accidentally married John Abraham on the sets of the film Force.

According to the story, a real priest performed the wedding scene. The sequence reportedly included all actual rituals—mantras, garlands, mangalsutra, and seven pheras—which allegedly made the marriage legal.

However, Genelia strongly denied it. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, she said, “There was no truth to it. We didn’t get married. These stories were spread by PR, and I think you should ask them why they did it.”

Moreover, she said neither she nor John was aware of any such incident. She blamed the rumour on PR teams and said it was completely made up.

She Took a Break from Acting After Marriage

Later, Genelia spoke about her long break from acting. After marrying Riteish Deshmukh, she stepped away from films for ten years.

When asked if it was hard to leave the spotlight, she told Zoom, “Most people ask me if it’s easy to step away from the limelight for 10 years and I said, ‘It’s what I wanted to do, so I did it.’ I saw a place after 10 years and I am happy in that place. I may not do 10 films, I may do three films, but my happiness is with that and that’s what matters the most.”

Clearly, she made the decision on her own and felt content with it.

Genelia Criticises the Industry for Ignoring Her

Now, as she returns to the big screen, Genelia has voiced her disappointment with Bollywood. She said the industry didn’t offer her opportunities after her marriage.

In a conversation with FilmyMantra, she recalled how people reacted when they found out she was working in Sitaare Zameen Par with Aamir Khan.

“When people got to know I’m doing Sitaare Zameen Par, everybody said, ‘Oh my god! So lucky! You’re doing an Aamir Khan film!’ I said, of course, that’s Aamir sir’s bigness that he saw something in me. Of course, he made me audition. But you could also do that, right? You could also offer me a role,” she said.

Thus, she pointed out that others in the industry could have given her a chance too, but didn’t.

She Returns to Theatres This Week

Finally, Genelia is back with a new film. Her comeback movie, Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, is set to release this Friday. Fans are excited to see her return after a long gap.
