Coal Mine Collapse in Jharkhand Leaves One Dead, Others Feared Trapped
A coal mine collapse in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh killed one person and left several feared trapped, with rescue operations still underway.

A part of a coal mine collapsed in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district early Saturday, killing at least one person and trapping several others. According to officials, the accident took place in the Karma area of the district.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Local police and rescue teams rushed to the scene as soon as they got the news. The district administration confirmed that emergency teams have been deployed to investigate and assist.

Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz told, “We received information about the incident in the morning. An administrative team has been sent to the spot to investigate the matter.”

One Body Recovered

So far, rescue workers have recovered one body from the site. However, more people may still be trapped under the debris.

Ashutosh Kumar Singh, the officer in charge of the Kuju Police said, “One body has been recovered so far and rescue operation is underway, as more people are suspected to be trapped.”

Possible Illegal Mining Activity

Authorities suspect that some of the villagers were engaged in unauthorized coal mining in the area when the collapse occurred. This illegal activity may have contributed to the tragedy.

Singh added that “some of the villagers were involved in ‘illegal’ mining of coal at the site.”

Investigation Ongoing

Officials are continuing to assess the situation as they work to rescue any survivors and determine the exact cause of the collapse.
