Actor Dia Mirza, who became a mother in 2021, recently opened up about the challenges she faced during the birth of her son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi. In an interview, she spoke candidly about the difficult journey, her health scare, and her son’s fight for survival.
“Save My Kid”: Dia Faced Life-Threatening Complications
Dia shared that her son was born extremely premature, weighing only 810 grams. Just 36 hours after birth, baby Avyaan had to undergo life-saving surgery. Despite the terrifying circumstances, she stayed focused on her baby’s survival.
“I was the least of my priorities. I said, ‘Save my kid,’” Dia said, recalling the moment doctors had to perform an emergency delivery in the sixth month of her pregnancy.
Life Had Different Plans
Dia revealed that she always hoped to become a mother earlier in life. “I would have had a baby when I was 26, but life had different plans for me and I finally conceived when I was 39,” she explained.
Bacterial Infection and Emergency Delivery
Her pregnancy took a dangerous turn when doctors discovered she had developed a severe bacterial infection. Things worsened quickly. “We discovered my placenta was hemorrhaging and that my body was going into sepsis, and if the baby was not pulled out, neither of us would have been saved. It was quite scary,” Dia recalled.
A Blended and Loving Family
Dia is married to businessman Vaibhav Rekhi. The couple tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their son, Avyaan, the same year. She is also a stepmother to Samaira, Vaibhav’s daughter from his previous marriage. Together, they make a close-knit and supportive family. On the work front, Dia recently appeared in a cameo role in Housefull 5, which was released last month.
