Emma Watson, known worldwide as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has been banned from driving for six months. The 35-year-old actress was caught speeding in Oxford, England, where she drove at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone. The incident happened in July 2024 but the court delivered its ruling only now.
Court Orders Six-Month Ban and Fine
On July 16, the High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court suspended Watson’s driving licence for six months. Along with the ban, she must pay £1,044 in fines. The punishment follows her repeated traffic offences. Before this latest case, she already had nine penalty points on her licence. This automatically triggered the suspension.
Watson did not attend the five-minute hearing in person. However, her lawyer, Mark Haslam, confirmed to the court that “she is in a position to pay the fine.”
Public Reacts with Mixed Opinions
Online, people expressed varied opinions about the news. Some fans were surprised that Watson, known for her clean image, faced legal trouble. Others praised the court for applying the law equally, regardless of celebrity status. Many highlighted that her ban was not for a single mistake but for repeated violations.
One social media user joked, “Gryffindor loses 12 points! Emma Watson banned from driving for six months due to speeding.” Others shared memes showing Watson flying on a broomstick instead of driving. Another user quipped, “If she were paying attention in Madam Hooch’s class, this wouldn’t have happened.”
However, some expressed frustration with UK traffic laws, calling the ban too harsh for speeding slightly over the limit.
Emma Watson Yet to Respond
Watson, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford, has not commented on the court's ruling. Her representatives have not issued any public statement so far.
