Ellen DeGeneres Confirms She Moved to UK After Trump’s Re-Election, Says She’s ‘Staying’

Ellen DeGeneres Confirms She Moved to UK After Trump’s Re-Election, Says She’s ‘Staying’ Ellen DeGeneres has publicly confirmed that she moved to the United Kingdom shortly after Donald Trump won re-election. Speaking at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on Sunday, DeGeneres answered a direct question about whether Trump’s victory influenced her move. Her simple reply was, “Yes,” according to a BBC report.

Ellen Plans Permanent Stay in the UK

In 2024, following the end of her famous talk show, DeGeneres went on a final stand-up tour across the United States. After the tour, she bought a property in the Cotswolds, a scenic region stretching across Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

Initially, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, planned to stay in the UK for only a few months. However, their plans changed. She explained, “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in’. And we're like, ‘We're staying here’.”

DeGeneres Considers Renewing Wedding Vows in UK

DeGeneres revealed that she and Portia have thought about renewing their wedding vows in England. She said that this idea came as they watched LGBTQ+ rights face new challenges in the US. She noted that America still feels “scary for people to be who they are,” highlighting her concern over ongoing legal changes affecting LGBTQ+ communities.

A Glimpse of Ellen’s New Life in England

Now living in the countryside, DeGeneres often shares glimpses of her rural life online. She once had farm animals, including chickens and sheep, but admitted to selling them because they kept escaping. Her wife, Portia, also brought her horses to the UK.

DeGeneres described her new home as peaceful and beautiful. She said, “It’s absolutely beautiful,” adding, “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.”

She continued, “It’s clean. Everything here is just better the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”

Although they moved in November, which DeGeneres said wasn’t ideal, she enjoyed seeing snow for the first time in her life. She said, “We love it here.”

Ellen Addresses Toxic Workplace Claims

Speaking about past accusations that her show had a toxic workplace, DeGeneres admitted she could sometimes be “very blunt.” However, she denied the serious claims, calling them “clickbait.”
