Dakota and Elle Fanning will share the screen for the first time in the upcoming film The Nightingale. The movie will release in cinemas on February 12, 2027. It is based on Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel of the same name.
The film’s official Instagram page teased fans with a photo of the script next to the book. The caption read, “Can we buy tickets now?”
A Long-Awaited Dream Comes True
This marks the first time the Fanning sisters will act opposite each other. Earlier, they played the same character at different ages. But they never appeared together in a scene.
In a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the sisters said, “The Nightingale will be the first time we act on screen together." They added, “We have played the same character at different ages, but have never spoken to each other in front of a camera."
They searched for the right project for years. Then this story came along. “As sisters, to share our artistry while bringing such a powerful sister story to life is a dream come true,” they said. “We are so lucky to have our fearless director, Melanie Laurent, to guide us along on the journey. Let’s do this, sister!!”
A Powerful Story Set During War
The film takes place in France during World War II. It follows two sisters struggling to survive under German occupation. They face danger, sacrifice, and emotional trials while trying to stay alive.
Elle called it “completely a sister story” and said that’s the “heart of it."
