Sydney Sweeney’s Denim Campaign Sparks Buzz as Trump Calls It ‘Fantastic’
Sydney Sweeney's denim ad earned praise from Donald Trump after reports revealed her Republican affiliation, sparking political debate and mixed public reactions.

Actress Sydney Sweeney recently starred in a denim advertisement for American Eagle that sparked wide reactions online. US President Donald Trump responded positively, saying her ad is “fantastic” if she is indeed a registered Republican. He told a reporter, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!”

Trump’s comment followed reports confirming Sweeney’s political affiliation.

Sweeney Registered as Republican After Buying Florida Mansion

According to The Guardian, Sweeney registered as a Republican in Florida on June 14, 2024. The registration came shortly after she purchased a mansion in the Florida Keys. It also happened just weeks after Trump was convicted in New York for falsifying business records.

So far, Sweeney has not commented on her voter status. Despite growing attention, she has stayed silent on the political reactions.

Ad Uses Wordplay: "Genes" and "Jeans"

The American Eagle campaign features a pun that blends genetics with denim. In the ad, Sweeney says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

Many viewers found the ad clever and humorous. Some praised her performance, while others linked the campaign to broader political issues, especially Trump's recent steps to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and increase immigration enforcement.

Brand Stands by Sweeney and the Campaign

American Eagle defended the ad after criticism. In a public statement, the company clarified, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.”

The brand emphasized that the campaign focused on Sweeney’s personal style and story, not politics.

Public Reaction Stays Divided

Since the news broke about Sweeney’s Republican registration, online discussions have intensified. Some users questioned if her political stance matches the brand’s values. Others argued that political beliefs should not influence how a celebrity’s work is viewed.

So far, Sweeney has avoided the spotlight on this issue. But her denim ad has now become part of a much bigger conversation about politics, branding, and celebrity identity in America.
