During the call, Putin updated Xi on recent interactions between Russia and the US. He also shared details about the situation in Ukraine. Xi responded by saying, “Complex issues have no simple solutions.” Furthermore, he added, “China will always support making peace and promoting talks.”
Putin Confirmed Meeting with Trump
Earlier, Putin announced plans for a meeting with US President Donald Trump. He said that both leaders showed interest in the meeting. Moreover, Putin suggested the United Arab Emirates as a possible venue. “The exact venue is still being decided, but the UAE is a suitable option,” he explained.
On Meeting Initiation and Zelenskyy’s Role
When asked who initiated the meeting proposal, Putin stated that both sides were interested. He emphasized, “Who reached out first is no longer relevant.” Regarding Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy’s participation, Putin said, “I have nothing against it in principle, but certain conditions must be met first. We are still far from that point.”
Kremlin Confirmed Putin-Trump Meeting
Finally, the Kremlin confirmed that the Putin-Trump meeting will take place soon. Trump seeks a breakthrough to end the Ukraine war. However, he has expressed frustration with Putin and threatened new sanctions. This announcement came after Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Putin for three hours in Moscow.
