Mary Ann Alexander Returns With Bold New Single ‘Good Girl’
Mary Ann Alexander’s Good Girl blends R&B nostalgia with modern pop, exploring power, vulnerability, and self-trust through both sound and visuals.

Kerala-born and Bengaluru-based singer-songwriter Mary Ann Alexander has released her latest single Good Girl. The track, which came out on August 12, 2025, blends early 2000s R&B nostalgia with modern pop production. Shillong-based multi-instrumentalist Adiel Massar, also known as adL, co-wrote and produced the song.

A Sound Between Power and Vulnerability

The song creates a balance between strength and surrender. Hypnotic synth layers, deep basslines, and delicate cello notes set the mood. Mary Ann’s voice moves from soft whispers to powerful high notes, building a sound that is dark, playful, and confident.

Mary Ann explained the meaning behind the track. “‘Good Girl’ is about that playful dance between power and vulnerability. Choosing to be soft doesn’t make you weak—it shows you trust yourself enough to let someone in. It’s about being in a relationship where both partners feel like the prize, where you can be wild and worshipped, someone’s good girl without losing any part of who you are."

A Music Video With Symbolism

The song’s music video, co-directed with Anushka Agarwalla, was filmed in an abandoned building. It features two contrasting characters — a soft, curious figure with a handycam and a dominant, shadowy “kidnapper.” The two face each other in a chess game, symbolizing a struggle for control. The game ends with the kidnapper winning and binding Mary Ann in chains.

The final reveal shows that both characters are the same person. This twist turns the video into a story of inner conflict between surrender and self-control. Costume choices add depth — flowing white outfits represent vulnerability, while dark structured clothing shows dominance.

An Artist Who Keeps Evolving

Good Girl follows the success of Mary Ann’s The Lovey Dovey Song. Over the years, she has worked with leading Indian musicians like Tarang Joseph and Nate08, and has contributed to Malayalam and Hindi film soundtracks. Her music blends the warmth of early 2000s R&B with today’s pop and hip-hop elements.

She has performed at top festivals including Magnetic Fields, Echoes of Earth, and Vh1 Supersonic. Her work has gained praise from artists like Sid Sriram and Neeraj Madhav, marking her as a rising voice in India’s music scene.

With Good Girl, Mary Ann once again proves she creates more than just songs. She delivers experiences that connect sound, visuals, and emotion. The track, released through UnitedMasters, is now available on all major streaming platforms.
