‘I Stand Like a Wall for Farmers,’ Says PM Modi on Independence Day
On Independence Day, PM Modi promised strong protection for farmers and called for high-quality, self-reliant production in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Thursday that his government would “stand like a wall” to protect farmers’ interests. Speaking from the Red Fort on Independence Day, he stressed the need for self-reliance and high-quality production to strengthen the nation.

Modi said, “I am standing like a wall for our farmers,” underlining that supporting agriculture and industry is key to safeguarding India’s sovereignty

Focus on Self-Reliance

The PM promoted the mantra “Daam kam, dum zyaada” (lower cost, higher value) to encourage the production of affordable yet high-quality goods.

He warned that over-dependence on other countries weakens a nation. “Those who rely too much on others invite a big question mark over their freedom. The real misfortune begins when dependence becomes a habit,” Modi said.

Economic Strength Beyond Trade

Modi clarified that self-reliance goes beyond imports, exports, or currency. It is about building a nation’s capabilities. “When self-reliance begins to erode, so does our strength. To preserve and enhance our capabilities, we must remain vigilant,” he said.

Without naming the United States, he encouraged India to focus on its own growth rather than diminishing others. “We should not waste our energy trying to shorten someone else’s line. We must extend our own line with full energy. The world will respect our strength,” Modi added.

Resilience in Agriculture and Industry

Framing self-reliance as vital to national security, Modi urged vigilance and resilience. He positioned strong domestic agriculture and industry as essential tools to protect India’s sovereignty and economic freedom.
