India Begin Women’s Asia Cup with Stunning 11–0 Win Over Thailand
India crushed Thailand 11–0 in their Women’s Asia Cup opener, setting up a high-stakes clash with defending champions Japan.

India crushed Thailand 11–0 in their opening match of the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou, China. The Indian women’s hockey team made a powerful statement at the start of their campaign with a dominant victory over Thailand. The match showcased India’s determination to win their third Asia Cup title.

Strong Start in First Half

India quickly stamped their authority on the game with Mumtaz Khan scoring the opening goal in the seventh minute. Just three minutes later, Sangita Kumari doubled the lead with a sharp strike. The momentum continued as Navneet Kaur and Lalremsiami added two more field goals in the 16th and 18th minutes. Before halftime, Udita Duhan converted a penalty corner in the 30th minute, giving India a commanding 5–0 lead.

Relentless Second Half Performance

India’s aggression did not slow down after the break. Beauty Dung Dung struck twice, first in the 45th minute and again in the 54th minute, showing her clinical finishing skills. In between those goals, Mumtaz Khan scored her second of the match in the 49th minute. Udita added another penalty corner goal in the 52nd minute to extend the lead further.

As the match neared its end, Sharmila Devi netted a field goal in the 57th minute, and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal finished the scoring spree with a strike in the final minute. The result sealed India’s emphatic 11–0 triumph.

India’s Tactical Brilliance

From the opening whistle, India’s strategy was clear: maintain quick ball movement, press high, and exploit Thailand’s defensive weaknesses. Their penalty corner conversions, especially by Udita, were executed with precision and proved vital to building such a massive lead.

Defensively, India remained compact and organized, preventing Thailand from creating any significant scoring chances. The team’s depth and coordination were evident as several players contributed to both attack and defense, making it a complete performance.

Upcoming Challenge Against Japan

India now face defending champions Japan on Saturday, September 6, at 4:30 PM IST. This match is expected to be a tougher challenge, with Japan posing a formidable test for the Indian side. A win would put India firmly at the top of Pool B and boost their confidence as they aim to secure their third Women’s Asia Cup title.
