Russia intensified its assault on Ukraine by launching over 800 drones on Kyiv, Ukraine's Air Force reported. As a result, two people were killed, and thirteen drones struck a key government building in the city.
Strike Hits Central Kyiv for the First Time
For the first time since the war began, a government building in central Kyiv was damaged. A thick plume of smoke rose from the roof of the Cabinet of Ministers building, which houses Ukraine’s top officials.
Consequently, police quickly sealed off the area, while fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the scene.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the strike, saying, “For the first time, the government building was damaged by an enemy attack, including the roof and upper floors. We will restore the buildings, but lost lives cannot be returned.”
Largest Drone Attack Since Full-Scale Invasion
Furthermore, Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat stated that this was “the largest Russian drone strike since the full-scale invasion began.” In addition to drones, Russia also fired 13 missiles of different types, increasing the scale of the attack.
Sharp Shift in Russia’s Tactics
Previously, Russia had avoided striking central government buildings in Kyiv. However, this latest attack signals a major escalation in tactics, leaving Ukrainian officials scrambling to assess the damage and prevent further strikes.
