The White House criticized the Nobel Committee for not giving the 2025 Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump. Officials called the move “politically motivated.”
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung voiced anger on X. “President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives,” he wrote. “He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will. The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”

Nobel Peace Prize Goes to María Corina Machado
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded this year’s Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. The decision ignored President Trump, who had publicly shown interest in receiving the honor.
Many viewed the award as a rejection of Trump. His supporters had pushed for his nomination, citing his past peace efforts and diplomatic deals.
Trump Criticizes Obama Before Announcement
Hours before the Nobel announcement, President Trump attacked former President Barack Obama. He questioned Obama’s 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
“He got it for doing nothing,” Trump said. “Obama got a prize—he didn’t even know what for. He got elected, and they gave it to him for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country.”
Obama received the award in 2009, eight months into his first term. The Nobel Committee had praised his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
Trump Pushes for Recognition
President Trump returned to office in January. Since then, he has repeatedly said he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. He pointed to his administration’s efforts to broker peace in Gaza and end what he claimed were eight active wars.
“I’m driven by results, not recognition,” Trump said recently. Reports also said he pressured the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) to support his nomination.
Despite those efforts, the Nobel Committee honored Machado for her “tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Ceremony Set for December
The award carries a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor, about $1.2 million. The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony will take place on December 10 in Oslo, marking the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
