US President Donald Trump confirmed that the Israel-Hamas ceasefire is still active. His statement came after Israeli airstrikes hit Gaza, killing dozens. The violence reignited when two Israeli soldiers died in a Rafah attack. The Hamas-run civil defence said 45 people were killed in the strikes. Officials have not confirmed how many were civilians or Hamas fighters.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “We want to make sure that it’s going to be very peaceful with Hamas. And as you know, they’ve been quite rambunctious… but either way … it’s going to be handled toughly, but properly.”
Vance Seeks Security Setup Before Disarming Hamas
US Vice President JD Vance said Gaza needs security infrastructure before Hamas can be disarmed. He suggested that Gulf Arab nations should send peacekeeping forces to maintain order.
Vance said, “Before we actually can ensure that Hamas is properly disarmed, that’s going to require… some of these Gulf Arab states to get forces in there to actually apply some law and order and some security-keeping on the ground.”
He added, “We don’t even have the security infrastructure in place… our allies don’t have it yet to confirm that Hamas is disarmed.”
Israel Resumes Ceasefire Enforcement
The Israeli military announced it has resumed enforcing the ceasefire after orders from its political leadership. The IDF warned that it will respond firmly to any violation.
Hamas denied responsibility for the attack that killed Israeli soldiers.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security meeting to decide Israel’s next steps. He said Israel will cut humanitarian aid by half and will not discuss Trump’s next peace plan phase until 16 Israeli hostages are released.
