The 25th match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 between Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women in Colombo ended without a result. Only 26 balls were bowled before rain forced the umpires to call off play.
Officials stopped the match before the scheduled cut-off time, declaring the outfield too wet to restart safely. The heavy waterlogging made further play impossible.
Sri Lanka Secure Fifth Place
The abandoned game confirmed Sri Lanka’s place above Pakistan and Bangladesh on the points table. They finished with five points, regardless of remaining results.
Pakistan ended their World Cup campaign without a single win. Out of seven matches, three were washed out due to rain.
Rain Interrupts From the Start
Weather forecasts had predicted rain all day, and the conditions matched those warnings. A sudden downpour minutes before the toss delayed proceedings by two hours and 45 minutes.
When play finally began, the match was shortened to 34 overs per side. However, just 4.2 overs were possible before another spell of rain washed out the game completely.
Pakistan’s Slow Start
Pakistan batted first after being sent in by Sri Lanka. They managed only 18 runs with one boundary before the rain returned. Their batters adopted a cautious approach on a damp surface.
Sri Lankan bowler Malki Madara impressed early, finding swing in the air and maintaining tight lines. In contrast, Sugandika Dasanayake struggled to control the wet ball as the conditions worsened.
Team Changes Before the Match
Sri Lanka made one change to their lineup. They included spin-bowling all-rounder Dewmi Vihanga in place of seamer Udeshika Prabodani. Pakistan made two changes, bringing in Eyman Fatima and Syeda Aroob Shah for Sidra Nawaz and Diana Baig.
Brief Scorecard
The result was disappointing for both sides. Combined, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have now seen five of their matches abandoned due to rain in this tournament. Both teams have repeatedly expressed their wish for more consistent international cricket opportunities. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
