Ram Gopal Varma Apologises to Shiva Child Actor After 36 Years

Ram Gopal Varma recently looked back at one of the most famous moments from his debut film Shiva. The 1989 movie featured Nagarjuna and a young Sushma in a thrilling cycle chase sequence. In that scene, Nagarjuna’s character cycled through danger while his frightened niece, played by Sushma, clung to him.

On social media, RGV introduced Sushma to his followers. He wrote, “This is the grown up girl Sushma from the iconic cycle chase scene in SHIVA where she is sitting scared on the bar with @Iamnagarjuna cycling in tension. @symbolicsushi is now doing research in AI and Cognitive Science in the USA.”

Sushma Expresses Gratitude

Sushma, now a researcher in the United States, responded with warmth and appreciation. She said, “Thank you, sir! Honoured to be remembered as part of Shiva's legacy. That experience as a child was unforgettable, and I'm grateful to have contributed to such an iconic film. Wishing you @RGVzoomin and @iamnagarjuna continued success with the Shiva 4K release!”

Her reply showed how much the experience meant to her, even after all these years.

RGV Offers a Heartfelt Apology

Soon after her response, RGV shared a sincere apology. He admitted that his passion for filmmaking had made him overlook the risks faced by the child actor.

He wrote, “Hey @symbolicsushi, please accept my sincere apologies after 36 years for subjecting you to such a traumatic experience which I didn't realise at that time. The directorial greed in me took over in being blinded to subjecting a little girl like you to such risky shots... I apologise once again.”

His message quickly drew attention from fans who praised his honesty and humility.

Sushma Responds with Kindness

Sushma graciously accepted RGV’s apology. She replied, “Being part of Shiva is a cherished memory. That cycle chase adventure influenced me and prepared me for later intellectual endeavours and adventures. I felt safe and excited to be part of something magical. Shiva remains a souvenir.”

Her response showed her fondness for the experience and her maturity in handling the memory.

Shiva Remains a Classic

Shiva, which starred Nagarjuna, Amala Akkineni, and Raghuvaran, marked RGV’s powerful entry into Indian cinema. The film’s realistic portrayal of college politics and violence made it a cult hit.

Now, the movie is set to return to theatres in a remastered 4K version on November 14, allowing fans to relive one of Indian cinema’s most iconic works.
