US Memo Accuses Alibaba of Aiding Chinese Military Cyber Efforts
A White House memo based on declassified intelligence accuses Alibaba of quietly helping the Chinese military access sensitive data and cyber tools, according to the Financial Times.

Washington has accused Chinese tech giant Alibaba of quietly supporting military operations aimed at US targets. This happened after reviewing a White House memo built on declassified top-secret intelligence, reported by The Financial Times. The document describes a pattern in which Alibaba allegedly allowed the People’s Liberation Army to access customer data, artificial intelligence resources, and information on zero-day software flaws.

The memo argues that these capabilities pose a direct threat to US security. It claims Alibaba gave the PLA access to IP address records, WiFi data, payment details, and AI-related tools. It further alleges that certain employees shared information about undisclosed software vulnerabilities. US officials believe this information could boost China’s cyber abilities.

US Officials Raise Broader Concerns

Officials quoted by the FT said they could not confirm every detail in the intelligence. However, they noted that the allegations match broader concerns in Washington. Many policymakers worry about how much sensitive information Chinese cloud and AI companies can access.

One US official told the FT that the administration is working constantly to defend against cyber intrusions from technology vendors considered untrustworthy.

Alibaba and China Deny the Claims

Alibaba rejected the accusations in strong terms. The company said, “The assertions and innuendos in the article are completely false.” It questioned the motives behind the anonymous leak and called it a “malicious PR operation” designed to weaken President Trump’s recent trade deal with China.

China’s embassy in Washington also dismissed the claims. Spokesperson Liu Pengyu said the United States had reached an “unwarranted conclusion” without proof and made “groundless accusations” against China. He described the allegations as irresponsible and a distortion of facts.

The White House did not issue any comment on the matter.
