CNG Supply Disrupted in Mumbai After GAIL Pipeline Damage
A damaged GAIL pipeline inside the RCF compound brought CNG supply across Mumbai to a temporary halt.

A major GAIL pipeline inside the RCF compound suffered damage on Sunday. The break in the line stopped gas flow to Mahanagar Gas Limited’s (MGL) City Gate Station in Wadala.

MGL confirmed the disruption in a statement shared with PTI, “Due to third-party damage in the main gas supply pipeline of GAIL (Gas Authority of India) inside RCF (Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertiliser) compound, the gas supply to MGL's City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala has been affected.”

Transport Services Affected Across the Region

The disruption quickly spread across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. CNG stations in these areas could not operate normally. Public transport faced the biggest impact. BEST buses, autorickshaws, taxis and app-based cabs like Uber and Ola depend heavily on MGL’s CNG supply. With stations unable to dispense fuel, many vehicles struggled to operate, causing delays and inconvenience.

MGL Prioritises Home Gas Supply

Despite the disruption, MGL said residential piped natural gas (PNG) users would not face interruptions. The company prioritised gas supply to households to ensure kitchens continued to run smoothly. Industries and commercial establishments were advised to shift to alternative fuels until normal supply resumed.

Supply Restored After Repairs

Repair teams fixed the damaged pipeline by evening. Once repaired, gas supply to CNG stations resumed. MGL said supply across its network would return to normal soon as pressure levels stabilise.
