The Congress party on Monday strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over a video that surfaced from a government event in Patna. The footage allegedly shows him pulling down the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor.
While posting the clip, the Congress wrote, “This is Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Look at his shamelessness, a female doctor had come to collect her appointment letter, and Nitish Kumar pulled off her hijab.”
The party said the act raised serious questions about dignity and respect for women, especially when it involved the state’s top elected leader.
One of Users from @JamalTurk5 account has also shared the video on X and accused the Chief Minister of behaving in a shameful manner at a public function.

Questions Raised on Women’s Safety in Bihar
The Congress linked the incident to broader concerns about women’s safety in the state. It said, “A man holding the highest office in Bihar is openly indulging in such a vile act. Think about it, how safe will women be in the state?”
The party argued that such behaviour from a Chief Minister sends a wrong message and normalises misconduct in public spaces.
Congress Demands Chief Minister’s Resignation
The Congress demanded immediate action and asked Nitish Kumar to step down. It said, “Nitish Kumar should immediately resign for this disgusting behaviour. This vileness is unforgivable.”
The party maintained that the incident crossed all limits of acceptable conduct.
What Happened at the Government Event
According to reports, the incident took place during an appointment letter distribution ceremony at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna. Newly recruited AYUSH doctors attended the event to receive their appointment letters.
The woman seen in the video has been identified as Nusrat Parveen.

In the footage, Nitish Kumar first hands over the appointment letter to Parveen. He then asks her about her headscarf and tells her to remove it. Before she could reply, he allegedly pulled down her hijab himself.
The woman appeared visibly shocked by the action. Others present at the event were seen laughing in the background, as per the video.
Appointment Letters Issued at the Event
Reports said the government issued appointment letters to 1,283 AYUSH doctors at the ceremony. This included 685 Ayurvedic doctors, 393 Homeopathic practitioners, and 205 Unani doctors.
