Who Are Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma? CSK’s Big Uncapped Buys at IPL 2026 Auction
Chennai Super Kings stunned the IPL 2026 auction by spending ₹14.20 crore each on teenage uncapped talents Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, backing them as long-term investments for the future

Chennai Super Kings grabbed attention at the IPL 2026 mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The franchise invested heavily in two young Indian players, Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, both of whom are yet to make their international debut.

Despite their young age, both players have already impressed in domestic cricket and the T20 format. Their high price tags have now made them the joint-most expensive uncapped players in the history of the IPL. The move reflects CSK’s long-term planning and confidence in youth.

Prashant Veer Emerges as a Key All-Round Prospect

Early Life and Playing Style

Prashant Veer was born on November 24, 2005, in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. He is a left-handed batter and bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin. Because of this combination, CSK see him as a strong all-round option for the future.

The franchise recently released experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. As a result, Prashant Veer could be developed as a potential replacement in the CSK lineup for IPL 2026.

Strong Performances in T20 Cricket

Prashant Veer has already made an impact in the T20 format. He has scored 112 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of more than 167. These numbers show his ability to score quickly in the lower order.

He played for Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League, where he impressed with aggressive batting. With the ball, he has also delivered consistent results. He has taken 12 wickets in nine T20 matches while maintaining a solid economy rate of 6.45.

Although his first-class record is still developing, CSK appear confident in his overall skill set and match potential.

CSK Shows Strong Faith at the Auction

CSK’s belief in Prashant Veer was clear during the auction. The franchise spent a massive Rs 14.20 crore to secure his services. The investment highlights CSK’s willingness to back young talent for long-term success rather than immediate returns.

Kartik Sharma Draws Attention as a Wicketkeeper-Batter

A Young Talent With Big Numbers

Kartik Sharma was born on April 26, 2006, and is just 19 years old. He went for the same price as Prashant Veer at the auction. Kartik is a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter who represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket.

Even at a young age, Kartik has built an impressive record across formats. His performances show both consistency and attacking intent.

Impressive Record in Red-Ball and One-Day Cricket

In first-class cricket, Kartik has scored 479 runs in 11 innings at an average of 43.54. His tally includes three centuries, highlighting his ability to play long and disciplined innings.

His List A numbers are even stronger. Kartik has scored 445 runs in nine matches at an average of 55.62. He has already hit two hundreds and two fifties, showing maturity beyond his years.

Aggression on Display in T20s

Kartik has also proven his ability in the shortest format. In 12 T20 matches, he has scored 334 runs at a strike rate close to 163. His power-hitting stands out, with 28 sixes to his name.

These numbers make him an exciting prospect for IPL conditions.

Seen as a Long-Term Successor at CSK

Kartik Sharma is widely viewed as a long-term wicketkeeper option for CSK. Many see him as a future replacement for former captain and keeper MS Dhoni.

This is notable because CSK had already traded in Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals before the auction. Despite that move, the franchise still chose to invest heavily in Kartik, underlining their focus on future planning.

A Clear Signal of CSK’s Strategy

By signing Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, Chennai Super Kings have made it clear that they are building for the next phase of the IPL. The franchise is betting that youth, talent, and patience will deliver success in the years to come.
