Ranchi Royals delivered a strong all-round performance to beat SG Pipers 5-2 in their final match of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025-26. The Royals dominated the contest, especially in the fourth quarter, to secure third place in the tournament.
Lucina von der Heyde scored twice in the match. Sangita Kumari and Hannah Cotter also found the net, with Cotter striking twice late on. For SG Pipers, captain Navneet Kaur scored both goals. Despite the loss, the Pipers had already qualified for the tournament final.
Early Goal Sets the Tone
SG Pipers began the match with high intensity and pressed early. However, Ranchi Royals quickly took control of possession. They earned a penalty corner inside the first minute.
Lucina von der Heyde (2’) converted the chance with a powerful drag-flick to give the hosts an early lead. The goal helped Ranchi settle into the game and control the tempo.
SG Pipers responded well. Captain Navneet Kaur (10’) scored a fine goal to bring her team level. Both sides continued to attack, and the opening quarter ended evenly at 1-1.
Sangita Restores Ranchi’s Lead
The second quarter saw end-to-end action, with both teams creating early chances. Ranchi Royals gradually increased the pressure through repeated circle entries.
Their persistence paid off when Sangita Kumari (24’) found space inside the circle and finished calmly to put the Royals back in front. After taking the lead, Ranchi slowed the game down and controlled possession. They went into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
Third Quarter Sees Missed Chances
Ranchi Royals remained in control after the break. They dominated the midfield and played cautiously to protect their lead. The hosts created several scoring opportunities, including penalty corners, but failed to convert them.
SG Pipers also pushed forward and tested the Royals’ defence. However, they could not find the finishing touch either. The third quarter ended without any goals, with Ranchi still leading 2-1.
Royals Seal Win with Late Surge
Ranchi Royals stepped up the pace in the final quarter and took full control of the match. Lucina von der Heyde (47’) scored her second goal from a penalty corner to extend the lead.
Hannah Cotter then struck twice in the closing minutes. She scored in the 55th and 60th minutes to completely shut the door on any possible comeback.
SG Pipers managed to score once more through Navneet Kaur (58’), who completed her brace. However, the goal had little impact on the final outcome. Ranchi Royals closed the match with a convincing 5-2 win and finished third in the Women’s HIL 2025-26 standings.
