WPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Crush Delhi Capitals by 50 Runs
Mumbai Indians produced a dominant all-round display to crush Delhi Capitals by 50 runs after a late collapse in the chase.

Mumbai Indians (MI) outclassed Delhi Capitals (DC) by 50 runs in Match 3 of the TATA Women’s Premier League 2026 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. After being invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a huge total of 195/4, powered by blazing half-centuries from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. Nandani Sharma (2/26 in 3 overs) was the most successful bowler for DC.

In the chase, Delhi Capitals lost early wickets and struggled at 46/5 after seven overs. Amelia Kerr (3/24 in 4 overs), Nicola Carey (3/37 in 4 overs), and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/29 in 3 overs) demolished the Delhi Capitals batting line-up. Despite late resistance from Chinelle Henry, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 145 with six balls to spare and lost the match by 50 runs.

Mumbai Indians Bounce Back in Style

Chasing a stiff target of 196, Delhi never settled. They slipped to 33 for 4 inside six overs. From there, the chase went downhill. Eventually, Delhi folded for 145 and lost the match by 50 runs.

Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Do the Heavy Lifting

Mumbai once again leaned on Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet, especially with Hayley Matthews ruled out due to injury. Sciver-Brunt led the innings from the start. She looked in complete control and punished loose deliveries early.

She struck three fours in her first four balls, placing them cleanly into different parts of the field. Soon after, she hit two more boundaries off Chinelle Henry. Mumbai reached 43 for 1 in the powerplay.

Sciver-Brunt kept attacking the spinners as well. She brought up her half-century from just 32 balls. At the other end, Harmanpreet began slowly. She reached 15 from 17 balls before shifting gears.

Harmanpreet Takes Charge at the Finish

Harmanpreet’s acceleration changed the momentum. She launched Henry for a six over long-on. She followed it with a trademark lofted four over the covers. That shot took Mumbai past 100 in the 13th over.

Sciver-Brunt then targeted Minnu Mani. She used late bat adjustments to find the boundary three times in the same over. The over cost 14 runs. Although Sciver-Brunt soon fell for a well-made 70, Mumbai were firmly placed at 127 for 3 after 15 overs.

Harmanpreet did not finish alone. She found support from Carey, who played a quick cameo. Carey struck four boundaries, including a reverse-pull, during her 21 off 12 balls. However, Harmanpreet remained the main aggressor.

She manipulated the field smartly, especially in the final over bowled by Shree Charani. She hit four consecutive fours. Mumbai collected 53 runs from the last four overs and finished with an imposing total close to 200.

Early Wickets Hurt Mumbai Briefly

Mumbai’s opening troubles continued for the second match in a row. Amelia Kerr fell for a duck. G Kamalini struggled for fluency and made 16 from 19 balls.

Kerr edged her first legal delivery from Chinelle Henry behind the stumps. Lizelle Lee completed a diving catch on the second attempt. Kamalini showed intent with two straight fours off Nandani Sharma. However, she soon edged the ball thickly, and Lee again took a sharp catch. Sharma claimed her maiden WPL wicket.

Carey Rips Through Delhi’s Top Order

Delhi had a new-look top order after Meg Lanning was released before the auction. The gap showed immediately. Lee fell for 10 on her WPL debut.

Carey then produced a decisive spell. She brought the ball back sharply to dismiss Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt in the same over. Both batters lost their off stumps within three balls.

Soon after, Jemimah Rodrigues departed. Kamalini took a stunning one-handed catch behind the stumps off Shabnim Ismail. For the first time in WPL history, Delhi lost four wickets inside the powerplay.

Middle-Order Resistance Falls Short

Delhi still had depth in their batting. However, Carey struck again to remove Marizanne Kapp. At that stage, Delhi needed 150 runs from 78 balls. The required rate kept rising.

Chinelle Henry provided brief hope from No. 7. She attacked the inexperienced Triveni Vasishta on debut. She also took on the experienced Kerr. Her clean hitting brought some momentum.

Despite her boundaries, wickets continued to fall at the other end. The asking rate climbed rapidly. It crossed 12 runs per over at the halfway stage. It rose close to 20 with four overs remaining.

Henry reached her second WPL fifty in eight innings with a towering six over long-on. However, once she fell for 56 with the score at 133, the resistance ended. Delhi managed only 12 more runs in the next 11 balls and lost their season opener convincingly.

Bowlers Seal a Complete MI Win

Carey finished with three wickets and set the tone early. Kerr supported her with a tight spell and three wickets of her own. Together, they ensured Delhi never recovered from the early damage.

Mumbai combined power, experience, and discipline to deliver a statement win.
