AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday revealed the second list of election promises before the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls. The announcements focused on social welfare, financial relief, and support for students and vulnerable groups.
He promised interest-free loans for Muslim and Christian women and other minority communities. He also said that people with disabilities would get a waiver on loans taken from cooperative banks. In addition, he proposed an increase in social security pensions from ₹1,200 to ₹2,000 per month.
Support for Students and Families
Palaniswami also promised to waive educational loans taken by students. He said ration card holders would receive three LPG cylinders every year. These measures, he claimed, would reduce financial pressure on families and help young people focus on their future.
He also spoke about support for traditional sport participants. If a Jallikattu bull tamer dies during the event, the family would receive ₹10 lakh as compensation. Those injured would get ₹2 lakh.
Focus on Dignity and Opportunity
While speaking at a press conference, Palaniswami highlighted the need to improve the lives of the elderly, widows, and differently-abled people. He said, “No elderly person in Tamil Nadu should struggle for survival . No widow or differently-abled individual should be forced to live in indignity. Education must empower, not enslave our youth in debt. Our students deserve opportunity, not lifelong financial trouble,”
Earlier Set of Announcements
Earlier, on January 17, he had announced the first set of five promises on the birth anniversary of AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran. Those included increasing monthly financial support for women from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 and providing free travel for men in town buses.
Appeal for Fresh Mandate
Palaniswami said the party has a strong record of governance and welfare. He told voters that these promises were part of a long-term plan and not just election strategies. He said, “These promises are not election-time theatrics,” and added, “When AIADMK governed Tamil Nadu, we delivered stability, welfare and growth together. In 2026, we seek a renewed mandate to restore accountable governance and protect every family in this state.”
