Delhi High Court Takes Stern View on Rajpal Yadav Bail Plea

The Delhi High Court on Thursday heard actor Rajpal Yadav’s bail application in a cheque bounce case. The court noted that he is currently in Tihar Jail. This happened because he failed to honour a commitment he had made earlier.

Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer told the court that he could not contact the actor during the lunch break. Consequently, the court postponed the matter and scheduled the next hearing for Monday, February 16.

Court Says Rajpal Yadav Is in Jail for Failing His Commitment

During the hearing, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma made strong remarks. She said that Rajpal Yadav went to jail not because of a court order, but because he broke his own promise.

"You did not go to jail because the Court passed an order. You have gone to jail because you have failed to comply with your own commitments to the Court. You were not giving the money because the Court asked you to, you were giving the money because you entered into a settlement," the judge said.

She made this statement after Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer argued that the actor was misguided about the court proceedings.

Judge Rejects Claim That Rajpal Yadav Was Misguided

Justice Sharma did not accept the argument. She pointed out that Rajpal Yadav and his legal team had appeared in court many times. They had clearly promised to make the payment.

"25 to 30 times you appeared in this Court, and you were assisted by a senior counsel. Your senior counsel made statements on your behalf. Mr Yadav appeared through VC before me at least five times and said he would honour the statement made by his counsel, and if he went abroad, he would earn money and make the payment. You are not misguided," the judge remarked.

The bench also noted that Rajpal Yadav’s lawyers gave contradictory statements about whether the money would go to the court or directly to the complainant.

Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing Adjourned to February 16

The court said it would resume the hearing at 2:30 PM after lunch. It asked Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer to get clear instructions from him. However, the lawyer later informed the court that he could not reach the actor.

As a result, the court agreed to postpone the hearing to Monday, February 16. The bench also asked the complainant to file a reply to the bail application. The matter will now be heard on February 16.
