Police clashed with protesters in Karachi, killing nine people after a crowd tried to storm the US Consulate over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Violence broke out in Karachi on Sunday. Protesters marched toward the US Consulate. They tried to break through the gates. Police opened fire. The clash left at least nine people dead.

The Edhi Welfare Organisation confirmed the deaths. Rescue teams shifted the injured to Civil Hospital’s Trauma Centre. Hospital officials said at least 32 people received treatment. Authorities are still identifying the bodies.

Protest Erupts After Khamenei’s Death

The unrest followed the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The United States and Israel carried out a joint air strike on Saturday. Iranian state media confirmed the 86-year-old leader’s death.

Shia groups in Karachi had announced a march toward the US Consulate. A large crowd gathered near Mai Kolachi Road. Protesters raised slogans and tried to move toward the building.

Police Use Tear Gas, Seal Roads

Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Protesters threw stones in response. Authorities deployed a heavy police force on MT Khan Road and nearby areas.

Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hasan Langar demanded a detailed report. He said, “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.”

He ordered stronger security at sensitive sites. Ziaul Hasan Langar also asked officials to create alternative traffic routes. “Law enforcement agencies are fully alert and monitoring the situation closely,” he added. He warned that authorities would act against anyone disturbing law and order.

Traffic police closed roads leading to Numaish Chowrangi. They diverted vehicles to other routes.

Protests Spread to Islamabad and Lahore

Protests also erupted in Islamabad and Lahore.

In Islamabad, Tehreek-e-Jafaria Pakistan announced a protest near the US Embassy. Authorities sealed the Red Zone. Police deployed extra forces and armoured vehicles. Officers checked every vehicle entering the area.

Officials enforced Section 144 in Islamabad. This law bans public gatherings. The district administration warned that it would take strict legal action against violators.

In Lahore, protesters gathered outside the Press Club. They carried placards with Khamenei’s image. They raised anti-US slogans. The Anti-Riot Force secured the area. Police tightened security around the US Consulate.

US Defends Strike

The United States and Israel said the strike targeted Iran’s leadership. They described it as part of a major military campaign.

US President Donald Trump defended the action. He said the strikes aimed to end a long-standing threat and stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Authorities across Pakistan remain on high alert. Security forces continue to monitor the situation closely.
