IndiGo Becomes First Indian Airline With Over 1000 Women Pilots
IndiGo becomes the first airline in India to have more than 1,000 women pilots, marking a major milestone on International Women’s Day.

India’s largest airline IndiGo has crossed an important milestone. The company now has more than 1,000 women pilots in its workforce. As a result, it has become the first and only airline in India to reach this number. The airline announced the achievement on International Women's Day.

According to the company, women pilots now make up 17.5 per cent of its total pilot workforce. This figure is more than three times the global average. Therefore, IndiGo says it reflects the growing presence of women in India’s aviation sector.

Women Representation Growing Across IndiGo Workforce

At the same time, women are increasing their presence across different roles in the airline. Currently, over 45 per cent of IndiGo’s total workforce is made up of women.

Moreover, women account for more than 30 per cent of airport operations staff. They also make up almost 25 per cent of employees in the Operations Control Centre. In addition, over 20 per cent of the finance team and more than 15 per cent of the digital department are women.

Meanwhile, women also hold over 23 per cent of leadership roles within the company. This shows the airline’s efforts to expand opportunities beyond entry-level positions.

IndiGo Highlights Commitment to Women in Aviation

Speaking about the milestone, Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at IndiGo, said the achievement reflects the company’s focus on empowering women.

"This milestone truly reflects the spirit of Girl Power at IndiGo. As we continue to give wings to the nation, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for talented women to soar and shape the future of aviation," he said.

Special Film Released for International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women's Day, IndiGo also released a special film on social media. The video highlights the experiences of women working across different departments in the airline.

The film focuses on the theme of Girl Power. It shows several moments from the lives of women employees and celebrates the achievements that helped them succeed in their careers.

IndiGo Promotes Diversity Through EMBRACE Programme

In addition, IndiGo continues to promote diversity and inclusion through its EMBRACE initiative. The programme stands for Equity, Multiculturalism, Belonging, Respect, Accessibility, Community and Empowerment.

One key part of this initiative is the Girl Power programme, which focuses on encouraging women to take up roles across the organisation.

The airline said it values a diverse workforce. Therefore, it continues to create policies and training programmes that support gender equality and inclusive growth.

With this milestone, IndiGo aims to lead the aviation industry toward a future where more women take up important roles, including leadership positions.
