Australia Women Seal Series with 90-Run Win in 2nd ODI Over West Indies
Australia Women sealed the ODI series with a dominant 90-run win over West Indies, powered by Beth Mooney’s steady knock and a strong bowling display.

Australia Women outclassed West Indies Women by 90 runs in the 2nd ODI of the three match series at St. Kitts. After being invited to bat first, Australia Women scored 269/7 in 50 overs. Beth Mooney played a composed knock of 65 runs off 104 balls, while Phoebe Litchfield contributed a brisk 46 off 47 balls. The combined efforts of Australia’s lower middle order helped the team cross the 250-run mark.

Hayley Matthews (3/40 in 10 overs) was the most successful bowler for West Indies Women, while Ashmini Munisar and Afy Fletcher picked up two wickets each.

In reply, West Indies Women were bundled out for 179 runs in 46 overs. Georgia Wareham (3/29 in 10 overs), Ashleigh Gardner (3/34 in 10 overs), and Tahlia McGrath (2/15 in 7 overs) dismantled the West Indies batting line-up. Hayley Matthews remained the top scorer for West Indies Women.

With this win, Australia secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series and sealed the series with one match still to play.

Mooney Leads Australia’s Batting Effort

After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat first and posted a solid total of 269 for 7 in 50 overs. Stand-in captain Sophie Molineux, who is recovering from a recent back injury, did not take part in the match.

Veteran batter Beth Mooney played the key role with the bat and finished as the top scorer. At one stage, Australia were in trouble at 82 for 4 in the 16th over. However, Mooney steadied the innings.

Earlier, West Indies bowler Ashmini Munisar made an impact by taking two wickets in two balls. She dismissed Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry, with Perry registering only the third golden duck of her ODI career.

Mooney then built a crucial 58-run partnership with stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath to rebuild the innings. Later, Georgia Wareham added valuable runs lower down the order, scoring 39 runs at No. 7 to push Australia to a strong total.

West Indies Start Well but Collapse Dramatically

While chasing 270, West Indies began positively. Star player Hayley Matthews led the charge and guided the team to 92 for 1 after 23 overs, putting them in a good position.

However, things changed quickly after Matthews got out. She had earlier been dropped on 44 by Alana King but could only add one more run before being dismissed in the same over, with Megan Schutt completing the catch.

Spinners Trigger Batting Collapse

After Matthews’ wicket, West Indies suffered a dramatic collapse. They lost 8 wickets for just 36 runs on a pitch that assisted spin bowlers.

Georgia Wareham played a major role in this collapse. She dismissed Stafanie Taylor and then removed Deandra Dottin for a duck in the same spell.

Ashleigh Gardner also contributed strongly with the ball. She picked up three wickets, including the dismissal of opener Qiana Joseph with a caught-and-bowled effort.

Late Resistance but Too Little Impact

Towards the end, Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack added some runs for the final wicket, helping West Indies improve their total slightly.

Australia had some difficulty finishing the innings after their main spinners completed their overs. However, Tahlia McGrath eventually broke the 49-run last-wicket partnership by dismissing Ramharack, sealing the win.
