IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans Edge Delhi Capitals by 1 Run in Last-Over Thriller
Gujarat Titans clinched a dramatic one-run victory over Delhi Capitals as a tense final over and David Miller’s crucial decision turned the match.

Gujarat Titans (GT) edged Delhi Capitals (DC) by 1 run in a thrilling 14th match of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. After being invited to bat first, Gujarat Titans posted 210/4 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Jos Buttler scored blazing half-centuries. Shubman Gill remained the top scorer for Gujarat Titans, making 70 runs off 45 balls.

Mukesh Kumar (2/55 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals. Lungi Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav also picked up one wicket each.

While chasing, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul gave a solid start to Delhi Capitals, adding 76 runs for the first wicket. After Nissanka was dismissed in the 9th over, Delhi lost a few wickets in the middle overs, but KL Rahul held one end firmly. He played a brilliant knock of 92 runs off 52 balls and was dismissed when his team needed 45 more runs from 18 balls.

David Miller, who scored a quick 41 runs off 20 balls, tried his best, but his efforts fell short. Prasidh Krishna bowled the final over, with Delhi Capitals needing 13 runs off 6 balls. With 2 runs needed from the last 2 balls, David Miller failed to take a single. On the final delivery, Kuldeep Yadav failed to make his ground and was run out. Rashid Khan (3/17 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Gujarat Titans, while Prasidh Krishna also took two wickets.

In the end, Delhi Capitals lost the match by 1 run in a thrilling contest. With this win, Gujarat Titans opened their account on the points table.

Miller’s Review and Rahul’s Heartbreak

Even after being given run out, Miller did not accept the result instantly. He reviewed the final delivery, hoping it would be called a wide. However, replays confirmed the umpire’s decision, leaving him visibly disappointed.

In the dugout, KL Rahul was equally devastated. His brilliant 92 off 52 balls had almost taken Delhi Capitals to victory, but they fell short by just one run. Delhi Capitals suffered their first loss after winning their opening two matches.

The Turning Point: Miller’s Comeback Knock

Delhi needed 36 runs from the last two overs. Earlier, Miller had retired hurt due to a finger injury when the team needed 81 off 42 balls.

However, after Tristan Stubbs was run out in the 17th over, Miller returned to the crease. Initially, he was expected to support Rahul. But when Rahul got out shortly after, Miller had to take full responsibility.

He nearly turned the game around. Facing Mohammed Siraj, he smashed 6, 4, and 6, targeting the shorter boundary on the leg side. At the other end, Vipraj Nigam also contributed with an inventive boundary, reducing the equation to 13 runs from the final over.

Final Over Drama: Match Slips Away

Prasidh Krishna was given the responsibility of bowling the last over. He had already conceded 41 runs in his previous overs, making the task even more challenging.

Additionally, Gujarat Titans were allowed only four fielders outside the circle due to a slow over rate. The over started well for Delhi. Nigam hit a boundary off the first ball. However, he got out on the next delivery, caught by Shubman Gill.

With 9 needed from 4 balls, Kuldeep Yadav managed a single, leaving Miller to finish the chase. Then came the crucial moment. With 8 needed from 3 balls, Miller hit a powerful six. Now, Delhi needed just 2 runs from 2 balls.

Surprisingly, Miller refused to take a single on the next delivery, choosing to finish the game himself. But he missed the final ball, and Prasidh celebrated loudly as Gujarat Titans pulled off an incredible win.

Rahul’s Brilliant Yet Unfinished Effort

KL Rahul played one of his finest IPL innings. After scoring just 1 and 0 in his previous matches, he bounced back strongly with a quick 50 off 29 balls.

This time, Rahul played with freedom and aggression instead of his usual steady approach. He attacked fast bowlers confidently, hitting powerful shots across the ground.

Even when Delhi lost two quick wickets to Rashid Khan, Rahul continued to dominate and kept the chase alive almost till the end.

Rashid Khan Turns the Game Briefly

Rashid Khan once again proved his value for Gujarat Titans. After conceding just nine runs in his first two overs, he struck crucial blows in his third over.He dismissed Nitish Rana, who had earlier survived an lbw decision through DRS. Soon after, Sameer Rizvi fell on the very next ball to a sharp googly.

Rashid also picked up Axar Patel, creating a brief collapse in the Delhi batting line-up. On most days, such a spell would have decided the match. However, Rahul’s exceptional batting kept Delhi in the contest.

Eventually, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Rahul at a critical moment, when Delhi needed 45 runs from three overs. After his wicket, the pressure increased significantly.

GT’s Strong Batting Foundation

Gujarat Titans’ victory was also built on a strong batting performance earlier in the match.

Jos Buttler played an explosive innings, hitting four sixes in his first 15 balls and scoring a quick half-century. Shubman Gill started slowly but accelerated later, playing key attacking shots despite some physical discomfort.

Washington Sundar, promoted to No. 4, also impressed by scoring his first IPL fifty, helping the team build a solid total.

Although Gujarat managed only 49 runs in the last five overs, their earlier efforts gave them enough cushion.

The match will be remembered for one big question — why did David Miller refuse a single when Delhi Capitals needed just 2 runs from 2 balls? This moment may be widely debated, but inside the Gujarat Titans camp, the focus remained on execution. Prasidh Krishna held his nerve and delivered a slower bouncer on the final ball. Miller failed to connect. Immediately after, Jos Buttler reacted quickly and hit the stumps with an underarm throw from behind the wicket, running out Kuldeep Yadav.

In the end, the match was decided by fine margins. Delhi Capitals came very close, thanks to Rahul’s brilliance and Miller’s late charge. However, Miller’s decision not to take a single and Prasidh Krishna’s calm final delivery turned the match in Gujarat Titans’ favour. Rashid Khan’s key wickets also played an important role in setting up this thrilling win. This sequence sealed Gujarat Titans’ first victory in IPL 2026.  Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
