Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) outclassed Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 61st match of IPL 2026 in Dharamshala. After being invited to bat first, RCB posted a massive total of 222/4 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli played a superb knock of 58 runs off 37 balls. He added 76 runs for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal and then stitched another 60-run partnership for the third wicket with Venkatesh Iyer.
After Kohli was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 15th over, Venkatesh Iyer took charge and added 75 runs for the fourth wicket with Tim David. Venkatesh remained unbeaten on 73 runs off 40 balls. Harpreet Brar (2/35 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings, while Arshdeep Singh and Chahal picked up one wicket each.
While chasing, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38 in 4 overs) gave early blows to Punjab Kings. He dismissed Priyansh Arya in the first over and then removed Prabhsimran Singh in the third over. Rasikh Salam (3/36 in 4 overs) made the situation even worse by dismissing Shreyas Iyer in the fourth over.
Cooper Connolly and Suryansh Shedge added 43 runs for the fourth wicket, but Punjab Kings continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Shashank Singh played a fighting knock of 56 runs off 27 balls and also built important partnerships with Marcus Stoinis and Azmatullah Omarzai, but his efforts were not enough in the end.
With this victory, RCB qualified for the playoffs, while Punjab Kings remained in fourth position with 13 points.
Venkatesh Iyer Shines in New Role
With regular captain Rajat Patidar unavailable, RCB promoted Venkatesh Iyer to the top order for the first time this season. The move worked perfectly. Venkatesh smashed an unbeaten 73 off 40 balls and played a key role in taking RCB beyond the 220 mark. He struggled initially and reached only 9 off 10 balls. However, one misfield by Arshdeep Singh changed the momentum of his innings. After that, he attacked freely. He hammered Harpreet Brar for consecutive boundaries and later punished Yuzvendra Chahal with two sixes.
When RCB reached 157 for 3, Venkatesh shifted gears completely. He scooped Azmatullah Omarzai twice in succession and then attacked Lockie Ferguson with a brutal sequence of 6, 4, 0, 6. He completed his fifty in only 29 balls, his first half-century for RCB.
Kohli and Padikkal Build Strong Foundation
RCB lost Jacob Bethell early when Brar dismissed him in the powerplay. However, Kohli and Padikkal quickly took control of the innings.
Padikkal looked aggressive from the start. He launched Brar for six over long-off and played attacking strokes against Ferguson and Omarzai. Kohli also batted fluently and struck boundaries all around the ground.
RCB reached 61 for 1 in the powerplay. Kohli later crossed 500 runs in an IPL season for a record ninth time. He scored 57 off 37 balls with four fours and three sixes.
Kohli and Padikkal added 76 runs for the second wicket. Padikkal continued his strong form and scored 45 off 25 balls before Brar dismissed him. Kohli soon completed another half-century but fell shortly after while trying to attack Chahal.
Tim David Provides Late Firepower
Tim David added the finishing touches with a quick unbeaten 28 off 12 balls. His late hitting pushed RCB to an above-par total. PBKS also conceded a 200-plus score for the ninth time this season, highlighting their bowling struggles throughout the tournament.
PBKS Collapse Early in Chase
PBKS needed a strong start while chasing 223, but their innings collapsed almost immediately. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam ripped through the top order. Bhuvneshwar dismissed Priyansh Arya in the opening over and then removed Prabhsimran Singh cheaply.
Rasikh then produced a fine outswinger to dismiss captain Shreyas Iyer for just 1. PBKS slumped to 19 for 3 in only 3.2 overs.
Shashank Singh Fights Lone Battle
Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge tried to rebuild the innings with an attacking partnership. However, the required run rate kept rising rapidly. Shashank Singh then launched a counterattack and briefly gave PBKS hope. He smashed three sixes off Suyash Sharma in one over and attacked Krunal Pandya as well.
Shashank reached his fifty in just 22 balls after hitting Bhuvneshwar over cow corner. He eventually scored 56 off 27 balls, but the target remained too far away. When Hazlewood trapped Stoinis lbw, the contest was effectively over. Shashank and Omarzai delayed defeat briefly, but both fell in the final over.
PBKS finished on 199 for 8 and suffered another damaging defeat. After the match, head coach Ricky Ponting looked disappointed in the dugout as PBKS remained stuck on 13 points despite playing 13 games.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced a complete performance to defeat Punjab Kings in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash. RCB dominated with both bat and ball and defended their huge total comfortably despite a late fightback from Punjab Kings.
RCB posted a commanding 222/4 after explosive batting performances from Venkatesh Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Devdutt Padikkal. In reply, PBKS finished on 199/8 after losing early wickets and falling far behind the required run rate. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
