ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Australia Women Thrash Pakistan by 113 Runs
Ellyse Perry’s brilliant all-round display powered Australia Women to a crushing 113-run victory over Pakistan Women, strengthening their hold on top spot in Group A at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia Women crushed Pakistan Women by 113 runs in the 21st match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in Leeds. After electing to bat first, Australia Women posted a massive total of 199/7 on the scoreboard in their 20 overs. After losing Beth Mooney on the very first ball of the match, Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry added a quick-fire 100-run partnership for the second wicket.

Perry played a brilliant innings of 71 runs off 48 balls before being dismissed by Fatima Sana in the 17th over. Useful cameos from Nicola Carey and Annabel Sutherland in the death overs helped Australia Women finish just one run short of the 200-run mark. Sadia Iqbal (2/31 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Pakistan Women, while Nashra Sandhu and Rameen Shamim also picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Pakistan Women were bowled out for just 86 runs in 13.4 overs against Australia's disciplined and aggressive bowling attack. Sophie Molineux (2/6 in 2 overs), Ellyse Perry (2/9 in 1 over), Annabel Sutherland (2/12 in 1.4 overs), and Georgia Wareham (1/2 in 2 overs) shared seven wickets between them, conceding only 29 runs in a combined 6.4 overs. Muneeba Ali was the top scorer for Pakistan Women.

With this victory, Australia Women extended their winning streak and strengthened their position at the top of Group A. Pakistan Women had already been eliminated from the semi-final race before the match.

Perry Produces One of Her Finest World Cup Innings

Perry played one of the best knocks of her long T20 World Cup career. After Australia suffered an early setback, she anchored the innings with a mixture of elegance and power. Her footwork, timing and shot selection stood out throughout the innings as she punished loose deliveries and found gaps with ease.

One of the highlights of her innings was a beautifully timed six over long-on against Rameen Shamim. The knock marked a significant personal milestone. It was Perry’s first-ever half-century in a Women’s T20 World Cup despite playing in all ten editions of the tournament and making 51 appearances before this match. Her previous best World Cup score had been 42 against New Zealand in 2016. It was also her first T20I fifty since October 2023.

Pakistan Strike Early but Australia Fight Back

Pakistan made the perfect start when they dismissed opener Beth Mooney on the very first ball of the match. Gull Feroza produced a stunning one-handed catch at slip after Mooney edged a delivery from Sadia Iqbal. The early breakthrough briefly lifted Pakistan's hopes, but Australia quickly regained control.

Perry and Georgia Voll launched a powerful counterattack and put the Pakistan bowlers under pressure. Fatima Sana conceded 17 runs in one over, while Diana Baig leaked 19 runs in her opening over, including five wides. By the end of the powerplay, Australia had raced to 64 for 1, their highest powerplay score of the tournament.

Perry and Voll Build Massive Partnership

Perry and Voll combined for a crucial second-wicket partnership worth more than 100 runs. The pair dominated Pakistan's bowling attack and ensured Australia built a strong platform for a huge total. Voll played an important supporting role before Nashra Sandhu finally broke the partnership in the 10th over. The batter attempted to clear the infield but was caught at long-off.

Sandhu struck again just two balls later when Ash Gardner departed for a second-ball duck. Despite those wickets, Australia maintained momentum as Perry continued to score freely.

She later added another valuable partnership with Annabel Sutherland before eventually falling after Pakistan successfully reviewed a caught-behind decision. Australia nevertheless finished strongly and reached an imposing total of 199 for 7.

Mooney Shows Remarkable Courage Behind the Stumps

Mooney's contribution extended well beyond her brief stay at the crease. The Australian wicketkeeper displayed remarkable toughness after suffering a painful finger injury during Pakistan’s innings. She first injured her right-hand finger while attempting to stop a wide delivery. Team medical staff quickly treated her and reset the dislocated finger before she returned to continue wicketkeeping.

Later in the innings, the same finger was dislocated again when she attempted to collect an edge. Despite the repeated injury, Mooney remained on the field and continued keeping wicket. Her determination paid off as she played a role in five dismissals during Pakistan's innings.

Pakistan’s Chase Falls Apart

Pakistan began their chase aggressively but struggled to build partnerships. They reached 50 for 3 during the powerplay, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Several run-out mistakes further damaged their chances. The first came when Muneeba Ali sent Gull Feroza back after a mix-up, resulting in a straightforward run-out.

Another poor piece of running saw Ayesha Zafar dismissed after being sent back while attempting a single. Pakistan suffered yet another costly run-out when Rameen Shamim was stranded well short of her crease after being sent back by captain Fatima Sana. The repeated errors left Pakistan chasing the game throughout the innings.

Perry Strikes With the Ball

Perry also made an immediate impact with the ball. Introduced into the attack with Pakistan already struggling, she struck with her very first delivery when Muneeba Ali hit a catch straight to midwicket.

She then removed Aliya Riaz later in the same over, leaving Pakistan in deeper trouble. Perry finished with impressive figures of 2 for 9. Sophie Molineux and Annabel Sutherland also claimed two wickets each as Australia's bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

Australia Seal Huge Victory

Pakistan never recovered from the middle-order collapse and continued losing wickets steadily. The innings ended when Sadia Iqbal was caught behind for a first-ball duck, with Mooney involved in the dismissal despite her injured finger. Pakistan were bowled out for just 86, handing Australia a commanding 113-run victory.
