Sakshi Chaudhary made history on Saturday by winning the gold medal in the women’s 51kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The two-time World Champion defeated England’s White by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final, earning her first-ever Commonwealth Games medal with a commanding performance in Glasgow.

The victory also gave India its ninth gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Sakshi Takes Early Control of the Final

Sakshi dominated the contest from the opening round. She used her height advantage well and kept her opponent at a safe distance throughout the fight.

The Indian boxer landed accurate left jabs and controlled the pace of the bout. Her smart footwork and disciplined strategy prevented White from settling into a rhythm. As a result, Sakshi impressed the judges and took an early lead on the scorecards.

Strong Defence Keeps Sakshi Ahead

White changed her tactics in the second round and tried to fight from close range. She launched several attacks in an attempt to put Sakshi under pressure.

However, Sakshi remained calm and continued to dictate the fight. She relied on quick movement, solid defence and precise punches to score valuable points. Although White landed a few good punches towards the end of the round, Sakshi stayed in control and maintained her lead.

Composed Finish Secures Historic Gold

Sakshi entered the final round with a comfortable advantage. Instead of taking unnecessary risks, she boxed with patience and confidence. She waited for the right opportunities to counterattack and landed clean scoring punches whenever White moved forward. White attempted a late body attack, but it failed to change the outcome.

Sakshi completed a dominant performance and secured a unanimous 5-0 victory to win the gold medal.

First Commonwealth Medal for Sakshi

The gold medal is Sakshi Chaudhary’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games despite already being a two-time World Champion. Her victory also made her the third Indian boxer to win a gold medal on the same day, highlighting India's outstanding performance in boxing at the Glasgow Games.

With this triumph, India's gold medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 increased to nine, further strengthening the country's impressive campaign.
