Namibia outclassed South Africa by 18 runs in the first match of the T20I Tri-Series in Windhoek. After being invited to bat first, Jan Frylinck and Louren Steenkamp gave Namibia a flying start, adding 84 runs in 9.4 overs. Frylinck played a blazing knock of 60 runs off 38 balls, while Steenkamp scored 41 runs off 29 balls.

After that, Namibia lost wickets at regular intervals and managed to post 163/9 in 20 overs. Prenelan Subrayen (3/32 in 4 overs) was South Africa's most successful bowler, while Bjorn Fortuin and Duan Jansen took two wickets each. While chasing, Ruben Trumpelmann (3/24 in 4 overs) struck early blows for Namibia. As a result, South Africa struggled at 39/3 after 7 overs.

Dewald Brevis fought hard and scored a blazing 75 runs off 50 balls, but a magical spell from JJ Smit (3/32 in 4 overs) helped Namibia restrict South Africa to 145/9 in 20 overs. South Africa eventually lost the match by 18 runs.

Namibia Make Strong Start After South Africa Opt to Field

South Africa captain Bjorn Fortuin won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, the decision did not produce the expected result as Namibia's openers immediately put pressure on the Proteas.

Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck formed a strong opening partnership. The pair added 84 runs in just 9.4 overs, giving Namibia an excellent platform to build a big total. Fortuin eventually broke the partnership by dismissing Steenkamp for 41.

Frylinck continued to control the innings and emerged as Namibia's top scorer. He made a valuable 60, but Namibia lost wickets regularly after his dismissal and could not build another major partnership.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus contributed 19 runs, while Alexander Busing-Volschenk scored 13. Trumpelmann also added a useful 12 as Namibia finished on 163/9.

South Africa Lose Early Wickets

South Africa's chase got off to a difficult start. Jordan Hermann was dismissed for 7, while Lhuan-dre Pretorius fell for 9. Their early departures left South Africa struggling at the start of the innings. However, Dewald Brevis kept the chase alive with an attacking knock.

Brevis played aggressively and scored a brilliant 75, becoming the clear standout batter for South Africa. But Namibia continued to take wickets at regular intervals, preventing the visitors from gaining complete control.

Brevis and Jansen Revive the Chase

With South Africa reduced to 86/5, Brevis was joined by Duan Jansen. The two batters changed the momentum of the innings by adding 47 runs. Their partnership brought South Africa back into contention and reduced the target to 31 runs from the final 13 balls.

Namibia, however, produced a crucial breakthrough at exactly the right moment. Trumpelmann dismissed Brevis for 75, ending South Africa's biggest source of hope and putting Namibia firmly ahead.

Erasmus Delivers a Brilliant Final Over

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus then produced a decisive final over. He conceded only three runs and also dismissed South Africa captain Fortuin. His outstanding over left the Proteas with an extremely difficult task in the final stages.

Duan Jansen was still unbeaten on 25 and briefly gave South Africa hope. He struck eight runs from the first two balls of the final over. But JJ Smit responded brilliantly. He found the correct length and line and claimed the final wicket to complete Namibia's memorable victory.

Brevis' Fighting Knock Goes in Vain

Brevis' 75 was comfortably South Africa's highest score. Jansen remained unbeaten on 25, while Rubin Hermann was the only other South African batter to cross the 10-run mark, scoring 12.

For Namibia, Trumpelmann and Smit finished with three wickets each, while Erasmus played an important role with the ball at the crucial stage of the chase.

The result gives Namibia an early boost in the Tri-Nation T20I series and marks another impressive win against their higher-ranked neighbours.
