Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called on countries across West Asia to strengthen unity and cooperate against what he described as their common enemies.

In a written message issued six months after the beginning of the war in West Asia, Mojtaba urged regional countries to identify the threats they face and work together to confront them. His remarks were directed at the United States and Israel, although he did not name them in every reference.

“recognise your real enemy, understand its plan, and confront it”, Mojtaba said while calling for greater cooperation among countries in the region. He said Islamic nations could address their major challenges through friendship, unity and cooperation.

Mojtaba Khamenei's First Months as Supreme Leader

Mojtaba became Iran's Supreme Leader after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed at the beginning of the conflict in US-Israeli strikes. Since taking over the position, Mojtaba has remained largely out of public view. He has not delivered a public address, while Iranian authorities have also not released any video or audio recording of him.

Instead, he has occasionally issued written messages. Iran's state television has subsequently broadcast these statements. His latest message came as tensions remained high across the region following months of conflict.

Iran's Retaliatory Strikes Strain Gulf Relations

During the conflict, Iran launched retaliatory attacks against several neighbouring Gulf countries. Tehran claimed that US military bases located in these countries were being used to conduct attacks against Iran. Iranian forces consequently targeted American military facilities in several parts of the Middle East.

The countries affected included Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. The attacks and the wider conflict have put additional pressure on Iran's relations with several Gulf states.

'Anyone Who Creates Division Among Muslims Serves Purpose of Enemies'

Mojtaba made his latest appeal on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, a significant day for Shia Muslims. He warned that internal divisions among Muslims could benefit their opponents. He argued that anyone who creates conflict within the Muslim community, regardless of their position or intentions, ultimately helps the interests of Iran's enemies.

“Anyone, in any position, who does anything that leads to division among Muslims and creates conflict in the Muslim community, knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally, has served the purpose of the enemies of Islam,” he said, according to his official website.

Mojtaba also stressed the importance of cooperation among Islamic nations. “The solution to the problems of the Islamic nations is unity of words, friendship, and cooperation on the path of goodness.”

His remarks reflect his broader call for regional countries to avoid divisions and strengthen collective action.

Iranian People Urged to Maintain Unity

Mojtaba also directed his message towards the people of Iran. He urged Iranians to put aside their differences and prevent divisions within society. According to him, maintaining social unity is particularly important during the current period of conflict and pressure.

“Again, this servant's advice to the Iranian people is to not allow any differences to arise among themselves in any way,” he said. The statement echoed comments he made earlier on Friday, when he warned against actions that could weaken social cohesion.

“I firmly declare that doing anything detrimental to social cohesion is prohibited,” he had said on Friday.

Focus on Iran's Economy

Along with his call for national unity, Mojtaba has also spoken about strengthening Iran's economy. He has backed a gradual move towards de-dollarisation of the Iranian economy. He has also called for higher domestic production to support economic growth.

The focus on economic production comes as Iran continues to face pressure from the prolonged conflict, regional tensions and restrictions affecting its economy.

Mojtaba's latest message therefore combined calls for regional unity, domestic social cohesion and economic strengthening as Iran navigates the continuing crisis in West Asia.
