The Delhi government will conduct a detailed inspection of the route between Bharat Mandapam and Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday as part of preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit, officials said.

The inspection will be led by the Delhi chief secretary. Authorities will examine the condition and appearance of the entire route that will be used by visiting foreign delegates and dignitaries.

Officials will pay special attention to roads, potholes, footpaths, drainage systems, waterlogging, cleanliness and other civic issues. They will also identify areas that need immediate repairs or improvement before the summit.

Officials from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Police, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will participate in the inspection.

Roads, Drainage and Civic Appearance Under Review

The additional chief secretary of the Irrigation and Flood Control department (I&FC) has been asked to examine drainage arrangements along the route. Officials will also identify areas vulnerable to waterlogging and review emergency dewatering arrangements.

The NDMC chairperson will inspect areas under the council's jurisdiction. The review will particularly cover summit venues and locations where foreign dignitaries are expected to stay.

Meanwhile, the MCD commissioner will assess several civic issues, including cleanliness, encroachments, beautification work and stray animal management.

The PWD has also been directed to inspect roads and repair potholes wherever necessary. The department will check road signage, lighting, cleanliness and waterlogging and take corrective action before the summit.

Authorities will also ensure that BRICS-related branding is properly displayed along the designated routes. The overall appearance of the city will be reviewed to ensure that important areas present a clean and well-maintained look to visiting leaders and delegates.

Traffic Restrictions Expected From September 10

Traffic restrictions are expected to remain in effect from September 10, when foreign delegates are scheduled to begin arriving, until around September 14, when they are expected to leave.

The restrictions could lead to traffic diversions, congestion and temporary closures on several important roads in the capital.

According to officials, traffic arrangements could affect at least 22 arterial roads across central, south and southwest Delhi.

The restrictions are being planned to ensure smooth and secure movement of foreign delegations during the summit.

Nearly 4,800 Traffic Personnel Deployed

The Delhi Traffic Police will coordinate the movement of vehicles along routes designated for visiting delegations and dignitaries. Regular traffic may be diverted or temporarily stopped whenever required to allow official convoys to pass.

Traffic movement in central, south and southwest Delhi is expected to remain affected for around four days from September 10.

Delhi will host the two-day BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13. With several foreign leaders and senior officials expected to attend, authorities are preparing extensive security and traffic arrangements.

Nearly 4,800 traffic personnel have been deployed to manage the movement of foreign delegations and other important visitors.

Delhi Commuters Advised to Plan Journeys

Commuters travelling through central and south Delhi have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys during the summit period.

Traffic officials are also expected to issue detailed advisories closer to the event. These advisories will provide information about roads affected by restrictions, diversion routes and the timings of traffic controls.

Residents and daily commuters are likely to face temporary changes in traffic movement as authorities prioritise the safe and smooth movement of foreign delegates during the BRICS Summit.
